JOB DESCRIPTION Duties:

The Protection and Control Maintenance Engineering team provides technical support for the protection systems, excitation systems, in plant communication systems and instrumentation equipment for BC Hydro hydroelectric generating stations.

As part of this team, the successful candidate will:

* Provide technical expertise as a Subject Matter Expert for compliance with NERC MRS standards: PRC-004, PRC-005, PRC-019, PRC-025

* Perform duties as assigned for compliance with NERC MRS standards: MOD-025, MOD-026, MOD-027, VAR-501-WECC-3.1.

* Provide expert level technical leadership reviewing and analyzing Generation electrical protection operations.

* Provide technical support services for protection, control and instrumentation to the fleet of hydroelectric generating stations.

* Provide site assistance for commissioning, maintenance overhauls and failure investigations.

* Participate in the field testing and inspection of equipment as requested.

* Develop maintenance procedures and standards.

* Advise Generation Operations and Generation Asset Management on equipment health and risks of continued operation.

* Analyze and resolve challenging and unusual engineering problems with considerable

independence.

* Manage medium sized projects and work packages, writing specifications and standards, estimating capital costs, leading and mentoring technical staff, and providing technical and site support during the installation and commissioning of electrical equipment.

* Provide work leadership and technical direction to engineers, consultants and technical support staff, coordinate projects of some complexity and plan and manage resources, and develop innovative methods of design for complex P&C problems.

* Review work of the project team and of consultants and contractors to ensure accuracy, achievement of required results and adherence to accepted engineering practice.

* Imparts engineering knowledge and encourages the professional development of engineers.

* Develop and maintains effective professional relationship with internal and external colleagues in order to determine relative priorities, assess the impact of work on others and resolve issues of concern.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have:

* Electrical engineering degree recognized by universities in Canada.

* Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (EGBC).

* Ten years of experience in either Generating station P&C maintenance or Generating station P&C field engineering / commissioning.

* Expert technical knowledge in generation protection systems, control schemes, fault analysis / investigation.

* Knowledge and familiarity with NERC PRC Standards (PRC-004, PRC-005, PRC-019, PRC-025)

* Knowledge and familiarity with NERC Standards MOD-025/026/027, VAR-WECC-501-3.1 is highly desirable.

* Demonstrated technical writing and presentation skills; communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are essential.

* Ability to work in a team environment is essential.

* The successful candidate must be willing to travel and work at various job sites across the province.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Driver's License Type = Class 5

* This position requires moderate-to-frequent travel to BC Hydro's hydroelectric facilities and may require extended stays in remote locations throughout the province (up to three weeks).

Our four role types identify the degree of flexibility an employee could have to work from home based on the type of work they do. The flexibility for an individual job is up to the manager for each position and the operational requirements. Employees also have the right to work full-time from the office if they prefer.
