* Works closely with department staff and subject matter experts to determine appropriate graphic applications to be used in the design of specific projects, and ensures that the graphics in all projects are consistent with organizational objectives, strategies, corporate graphic standards and guidelines. Ensures curricula, graphics and assessment tools are appropriate for technical and trade audiences.

* Assesses graphics and curricula for effectiveness, logic, completeness, focus, clarity, grammar, spelling and punctuation. Develops, re-creates and updates graphics, images, photographs, animations, videos and illustrations for paper-based and PowerPoint presentation course materials.

* Provides expertise in adapting current graphics and curricula to alternative formats and media such as eLearning. Creates and edits Flash assets and edits additional media such as sound effects, audio, video.

* Builds and maintains an internal library of graphics, illustrations, videos and simulations including naming and governance. Maintains production equipment and performs minor adjustments and maintenance.

* Assists in the development of promotional material for BC Hydro's Training Development Centre by creating and producing logos, brochures, website, etc.

* Performs all of the duties of the Instructional Designer/Technical Writer job.

* Performs minor duties related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the job.

* University degree in a relevant discipline with additional training in graphic design plus four years of related experience that includes technical training, adult education curricula development and graphic design, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Requires expertise in software applications such as MS Word, PowerPoint, Access, Flash, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Adobe Captivate (simulations) and Adobe Acrobat Family.

* Excellent oral, writing, presentation/training and interpersonal communication skills.

* Must hold a valid class five (5) driver's license. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This position is affiliated with the Movement of United Professionals union (MoveUP/COPE).

* Articulate Storyline 3 is used to develop eLearning.

* A condition of employment for this role is to maintain your Class 5 Driver's License in good standing.

* Please note this is a Group 10 MoveUP Full-Time Temporary (FTT) opportunity for approximately 1 year.

* The role is headquartered in Surrey at the Trades Training Centre.

* As part of the selection process, applicants may be required to take a written test/assessment or presentation.

* Normal office conditions.

* Occasional overnight travel to BC Hydro sites and offices throughout the Province may be required.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required: * Ability to use common desktop applications and graphic software applications to an advanced level. * Ability to plan, design, layout and produce a variety of material. * Understanding of corporate graphics and standards. * Ability to develop and design competency profile charts, course outlines and profiles, training modules, curricula, instructional packages and other training materials. * Ability to write technical documents and understandable/user friendly manuals. * Ability to prepare performance objectives and performance measures. * Ability to apply and integrate adult education concepts and learning approaches to curricula. * Ability to develop and establish standardized curricula format and templates and to provide expertise on alternative delivery channels. * Ability to write and develop instructional materials and technical documentation. * Technical ability and knowledge to write various technical documents and manuals. * Excellent oral, writing, presentation/training and interpersonal communication skills. * Strong planning, organization and leadership skills. * Excellent working knowledge of PC's and common applications used in the development of training materials including the ability to use VBA macros in Word and PowerPoint. * Knowledge of evaluation and assessment methodologies. * Ability to drive a motor vehicle.
