Best Part-Time Jobs For Students in Canada

A 2019 research revealed 1.07 million students were working part-time while pursuing their education in Canada. Of course, it helps that companies are willing to offer semblances of the same benefits full-time employees get. This includes dental and health insurance, employee discount and lower stock prices, and choices regarding the schedule. Additionally, some companies might even pay for the tuition fees.

As such, if you are looking for part-time jobs for students in Canada, you don’t have to worry about compromising your studies.

Why Do Companies Allow Benefits For Part-Time Student Employees?

At first, this might seem overly generous, but companies do it to allow young minds to learn and grow with them. This reduces the turnover rate, as students stay loyal to the company long after completing their studies. This brings us to you, who could be looking for a job due to financial reasons or preemptively gaining experience in your chosen field.

Is A Permit Required For Part-Time Work In Canada?

If you are an international student, you will want to keep your Canadian Student Visa ready and updated before applying for a job. Additionally, students working part-time in Canada should have a work permit

Afterward, the work options look like this:

  • An on-campus job where you don’t need a work permit
  • Job off the campus where a work permit is a must
  • An Internship where the job is related to the study field. A work permit is still required.

Best Part-time Job Students Can Do In Canada

1. Translation and Writing Work

Suppose you are an international student with another language other than English as your native tongue or have a high level of fluency in another language. In that case, you can easily become a translator. You can do the whole office part-time or advertise yourself as a freelancer for extra cash. In an hour, you can accumulate $14 as a beginner. Once you gain some experience, this can be $55.

If you have unmatched writing skills you are confident in, you can become a freelance writer. On the high-end, you can get $60 per hour. You can also look for projects worldwide and don’t have to limit yourself to Canada.

2. Cafeteria Job

Working at the cafe in your university would not require much experience while you get paid handsomely. The salary can be somewhere around $30 an hour on the high side. This is better pay compared to regular restaurants, and you also get additional meals for free.

3. Hotel Auditor At Night

It is a reception job of sorts at hotels. If you are busy studying during the day, you can allot your evenings to the hotel. As long as you know how to operate the computer and know basic maths and accounting, this job is slow and easy. You complete the paperwork, bookkeep a little and help the guests in any way you can. Per hour, the rate tends to be $29.

Final Thoughts

Other part-time jobs include dog walker, content editor, fitness teacher, and giving rides to passengers. In Canada, you have to study for six months before you can obtain a work permit. Then, off-campus, you can work for 20 hours. If there is a break between semesters, you can work full-time in between.
