7 Smarter Ways to Find a Job in Vancouver

The last reported unemployment rate for Vancouver in August of 2021 was 7.2%. A marked improvement from the 12.8% we saw in 2020’s August month. Since the restrictions imposed by the pandemic have been lifted and new job posts are opening in the market, this appears to be the perfect time to go job hunting.

Yet, your luck isn’t by your side despite having the skills for the post? Or does it have something to do with the way you’re searching for a job? How about we look at the seven innovative ways to find a job in Vancouver to give you a little push?

1. Create Alerts For Jobs You Want

You must have particular organizations you want to work for and the position you are vying for. Then, it’s time to use Google Alerts and create alarms for the keyword that would be useful to you. You will get instant notification on any new roles available, and then you can quickly apply for the job in Vancouver.

2. Build A Strong LinkedIn profile

LinkedIn is said to have a user base of 17,000,000 in Canada. This includes recruiters who are searching for potential employees for their organization. For one, you need to have a good, professional profile picture. Your profile needs to include the keywords recruiters are likely to use to search for the ideal candidate. So, you want the keywords on your profile to be related to the roles you want.

LinkedIn is a great way to network and showcase your skills. Add connections related to your job as much as you can. Post there regularly on the subject matter you are an expert on and want a job for. This way, recruiters who come across your profile would come to you themselves.

3. Aim For Strong Endorsements

You have to be a little shameless about this. If you know someone who can attest to your work ethic and skills from a previous job or otherwise, get them to refer you. Keep in mind that the reference has to be related to the job you want.

4. Work As A Volunteer

Besides how fulfilling volunteering can be, it’s a way to meet new people in a new industry. It helps you network and leaves a good impression in the minds of people who have some say in your industry.

5. Scour The Social Media Sites

LinkedIn is great, so is Facebook, Twitter, and even Instagram. Facebook has groups you can join where recruiters and employees participate. Twitter has the same use as LinkedIn, where you build a brand. If you get a massive engagement, employers have a better chance of contacting you. Instagram lets you keep tabs on recruiting organizations while learning about the products and services from the company. The addition of reels allows you to go viral by making videos on a subject you know of.

6. Networking

Again, it all boils down to networking one way or another. Let your friends and family know you are looking for a job. Join clubs, communities, all the places people visit. Let them know. Even if there isn’t a hotshot recruiter in your club, a person could see an employer who would be willing to interview you.

7. Add Your Name To Professional Associations

Another great way to network, these associations hold lots of events you can meet others in. Additionally, you will get access to new resources and also hear about new job opportunities.

Final Thoughts

Among all this, always make sure to have a robust and professional resume ready. A resume should show the recruiter who you are in your field and what you can bring to the company. List achievements that you have, not roles you have fulfilled over the years.
