What – The Role:
The Controller is responsible for the company’s financial plans and policies, accounting practices, maintenance of fiscal records, and preparation of financial reports and statements. This role has direct supervision over general accounting, property accounting, internal controls, and budgetary controls, reporting to the Chief Financial Officer.
Financial Reporting
- Responsible for internal and external financial reporting, including quarterly and year-end financial statements and MD&A for regulatory submissions
- Coordinate and liaise with external auditors during quarterly and annual audits, and with external control testers assessing ICFR and disclosure controls
- Responsible for month-end reporting, ensuring timelines are met and reviewing month-end working papers
- Review subsidiary financial information
- Lead technical accounting analysis for complex transactions and prepare IFRS-compliant accounting position papers
- Prepare materials and support the CFO in Audit Committee and Board reporting, and respond to inquiries from directors and auditors
- Review new accounting pronouncements and ensure compliance
- Maintain internal accounting system (Microsoft BC365 and Jet Reports) and the company’s system of accounts
- Manage full-cycle accounting, including AP, payroll, and procurement functions (invoices, wire transfers, and pay runs)
- Prepare month-end and quarter-end entries, including bank reconciliations, accruals, amortization, FX, intercompany, and share-based compensation entries
- Oversee treasury functions, including cash forecasting, banking relationships, and cash reporting
- Manage equity compensation administration (Shareworks, options, warrants, RSUs, DSUs, withholding tax, and records of grants/exercises)
- Prepare and file statutory reporting requirements (GST/HST, EHT, ESTMA, WorkSafe BC, etc.)
- Liaise with external advisors including tax consultants and regulatory bodies as required
- Weekly cash reporting to CEO, CFO, and Audit Committee Chair
- Semi-monthly payroll preparation and procurement oversight
- Coordinate annual budgeting and forecasting process, including budget vs actual analysis
- Design, maintain, and document internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) and disclosure controls, including testing and remediation of deficiencies
- Review accounting staff work and oversee performance of accounting personnel
- Prepare ad hoc reporting and support improvements to accounting systems, processes, and reporting efficiency
- Maintain the company’s accounting records and ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data
- CPA designation (or international equivalent)
- Experience with external reporting for a publicly listed company (TSX or cross-listed preferred)
- Preparation of financial statements and MD&A in accordance with IFRS
- Experience working with external auditors, audit committees, and regulatory filings
- Strong IFRS knowledge, including technical accounting for complex transactions
- Experience in mining sector, covering operating and development-stage project accounting
- Strong knowledge of internal controls and multi-entity environments
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
- Experience supporting or leading finance functions as a mine transitions into production or development-stage environments
- Exposure to capital project accounting, cost tracking, and construction-stage controls
- Experience with inventory accounting (ore, stockpiles, consumables) and operational reporting (AISC, production metrics)
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (BC365)
- Experience with Jet Reports or equivalent and advanced Excel-based reporting models
Competitive base salary of $165,000 - $180,000 commensurate with experience, along with eligibility for STIP and LTIP, extended health, vacation.
Where:
Vancouver, B.C.
Downtown office, hybrid working schedule of 2-3 days in office/week.
