Job Description
Our client is an established real estate investment and asset management company with a diverse portfolio spanning residential rental and commercial properties. Based in Burnaby, they are a lean, high-performing team where smart people do meaningful work and where there is genuine, defined room to grow. This is a business that takes pride in its people and in doing things properly.
What - the Role:
Reporting directly to the VP of Finance, the Corporate Accounting Manager will play a central role in the financial management and reporting of the group. This is a broad, high impact position that spans financial reporting, tax, asset management, forecasting and internal controls across a multi-entity real estate portfolio.
Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements across multiple entities.
- Preparing tax returns, tax working papers and assisting with tax planning deliverables including 3 year forecasts, quarterly forecasts and tax loss carry forward schedules.
- Preparing weekly corporate cash flow reporting and assisting with budget preparation and overhead expense tracking.
- Preparing monthly asset management packages including budget vs. actual analysis, cash flow reporting and annual operating budgets.
- Managing real estate reporting requirements including annual lender and CMHC reporting, Empty Homes Tax and Speculation and Vacancy Tax filings.
- Assisting with the preparation of investor updates for properties under rental management and supporting insurance applications.
- Registering GST and corporate tax accounts for new entities and assisting with windup, dissolution or amalgamation of entities as required.
- Supporting the VP of Finance in the design and implementation of policies, procedures and internal controls to ensure efficient and compliant operations.
- Leading a small team of 3 direct reports - 1 Intermediate Accountant and 2 co-op students.
- CPA designation is a must have - though for a truly exceptional candidate who ticks every other box, the client is open to a conversation.
- Public practice trained with some industry experience is the preference, though candidates who are entirely industry-based with a relevant real estate or construction background, or entirely public practice with a relevant client portfolio, will also be considered.
- Heavy financial statement preparation experience is essential.
- Construction or Real estate experience is required.
- Familiarity with Timberscan and Sage 300 is preferred.
- A hands-on leader rather than a delegator - someone who is happy to roll up their sleeves and stay close to the work while also developing and supporting a small team.
- Sharp, curious, personable and a genuine critical thinker who can work independently and contribute to a close-knit, high performing finance team.
- Base salary of $110,000–$130,000.
- 3–4 weeks vacation.
- Comprehensive benefits package.
