Job Description

Horizon Recruitment is recruiting for an Assistant Controller to join a large real estate and asset management organization based in downtown Vancouver. This role supports the financial operations of an international portfolio and acts as a key partner to the Controller in maintaining accurate reporting, improving processes, and supporting a growing global finance function.

The Assistant Controller will help lead an international accounting team while ensuring timely financial reporting, strong internal controls, and consistent accounting practices across multiple entities and jurisdictions. This is an opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys both leadership and hands-on financial oversight in a complex, multi-entity environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Controller with oversight of daily accounting operations across international entities
  • Lead, mentor, and coordinate the work of offshore and international accounting team members
  • Review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages for accuracy and completeness
  • Assist with consolidated financial reporting for multiple business units and legal entities
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal policies, and regulatory requirements
  • Review reconciliations, journal entries, intercompany transactions, and working papers
  • Help improve accounting workflows, reporting processes, and internal controls
  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and internal stakeholders during audits and year-end activities
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow reporting processes
  • Assist with implementation and optimization of accounting systems and reporting tools
  • Provide financial analysis and operational support to senior leadership as needed
  • Act as a resource for technical accounting questions and process guidance across the team
Requirements:
  • CPA designation required
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within real estate, asset management, private equity, or a multi-entity environment
  • Previous experience supervising or coordinating international or offshore accounting teams
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting, consolidations, and internal controls
  • Experience working with complex corporate structures and intercompany transactions
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience using ERP/accounting systems
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Clear communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams and regions
  • Detail-oriented with a proactive and solutions-focused mindset
  • Experience in real estate or asset management industries is considered a strong asset
Remuneration:

$110,000 - $130,000 + Bonus
