About the Opportunity

Currently, Johnston Builders has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Construction Project Manager based in St. Albert, Alberta, with occasional travel (approximately 10%) to project sites across Western and Northern Canada.

In this senior leadership role, you will report to the Regional Director and provide end-to-end project oversight, working closely with internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders to lead complex commercial and light industrial construction projects from award through to successful completion.

Some of your key responsibilities within this role will include:

  • Leading projects from award through close-out, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, budget, and quality expectations
  • Collaborating with planning departments, permit authorities, and regulatory bodies
  • Supporting preconstruction activities, including participation in RFPs and new project opportunities
  • Coordinating and scheduling design development and construction activities
  • Monitoring job costs, budgets, and margins to meet or exceed project targets
  • Issuing and managing subcontracts, purchase orders, and change orders
  • Reviewing and coordinating shop drawings and technical documentation
  • Chairing project site meetings and issuing timely, accurate meeting minutes
  • Working closely with estimators to establish and maintain effective budget controls
  • Overseeing quality control and quality assurance throughout the construction lifecycle
  • Partnering with the safety team to ensure compliance with company safety programs and OHS regulations
  • Communicating proactively with clients regarding schedules, progress billing, coordination, and change management
More About You

To qualify, you will need extensive senior-level project management experience in commercial construction and a strong working knowledge of design-build and construction management delivery models. A minimum of 15 years’ experience in the construction industry, including 10+ years in a Project Manager role with at least 5 years leading large-scale projects valued at $20M+, will be essential. A valid Class 5 driver's license and a reliable vehicle are required.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Construction Engineering or equivalent education and experience
  • Experience working with First Nations and Indigenous construction projects
  • Strong knowledge of the Building Code and commercial and light industrial construction practices
  • Proven ability to lead and deliver projects in the $20M–$50M range
  • Experience managing job costing, budgets, margins, and financial controls
  • Proficiency with construction technology and systems, including job-costing software, Bluebeam or Adobe Pro, AutoDesk Build (ACC), SharePoint, MS Project, and Office 365
