If you're looking for a challenge that offers both career growth and the chance to make an impact, this is the opportunity for you.

Join our Mining and Metals team in Vancouver as a Principal Open Pit and Underground Mining Engineer. You'll lead high-impact studies and designs across the full mine life cycle-from concepts and front-end studies through execution and closure-while mentoring teams and building trusted client relationships across Canada and internationally. You'll collaborate across technical, legal, commercial, and environmental disciplines to deliver safe, resilient, and value-driven outcomes for our clients.
Your Impact
  • Lead multidisciplinary design reviews for underground and open-pit mining projects, ensuring technical excellence and alignment with client objectives.
  • Direct mine designs and schedules using advanced tools such as Deswik, integrating geotechnical, operational, and economic inputs to deliver robust, optimized solutions.
  • Own the mining workstream for front-end studies (PEA, PFS, FS), producing technical reports that influence multi-million-dollar project decisions.
  • Champion innovation by evaluating and applying new technologies, mining methods, and design approaches to improve safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Serve as a Qualified Person/Competent Person, providing authoritative oversight for mineral reserve disclosure across diverse commodities and deposit types.
  • Mentor and develop talent, guiding junior and intermediate professionals through technical reviews and career growth opportunities.
  • Integrate globally, collaborating with WSP's Practice Area Network (PAN) to share knowledge and leverage international expertise for local solutions.
  • Drive business growth, partnering with senior leaders to implement strategic initiatives and expand WSP's mining footprint across Canada and internationally.
  • Champion a safety-first culture, embedding risk management and compliance into every aspect of project delivery.
  • Build enduring client relationships, offering trusted advice and shaping solutions that deliver long-term value.
The Skills That Set You Apart
  • 15+ years of post-degree experience in mine engineering, with proven leadership in open pit and underground mine design across complex, multidisciplinary projects.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mining Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration in Canada, or eligibility to obtain it promptly.
  • Deep technical expertise in mine design and scheduling, with hands-on proficiency in Deswik (CAD and Sched) and similar platforms.
  • Ability to act as a Qualified Person/Competent Person, ensuring compliance with global reporting standards for mineral reserves.
  • Direct operating site experience, bringing practical insights to design and execution strategies.
  • Strategic mindset, with demonstrated success in business development and client engagement at senior levels.
  • Exceptional technical writing and communication skills, enabling clear, persuasive reporting and stakeholder alignment.
  • Proven ability to manage risk, balancing technical, financial, and operational considerations to deliver resilient outcomes.
  • Leadership excellence, fostering collaboration and empowering diverse teams to achieve ambitious goals.
