Established secondary wood products manufacturing operation centrally located in Fraser Valley is looking for a Moulder & Tooling Technician. 

The Moulder & Tooling Technician is responsible for selecting, preparing, sharpening, assembling and installing all profile knives and cutterheads used in the semi automated production of profiled wood products. Specifically on high speed moulding machines designed to produce precise wood profiles such as Weinig, Wadkin, SCM, Leadermac or similar. This key support role, serving multiple machine lines in a production setting, is critical for ensuring product quality, minimizing machine downtime, and maximizing efficiency. 

Job Duties:

  • Technical Interpretation: Read and interpret profile drawings, templates, and schematics to ensure accurate knife geometry.
  • Knife Grinding & Sharpening: Grind, sharpen, and profile knives (High-Speed Steel and carbide) for moulder production using high precision profile grinders.
  • Tooling Setup: Set up, balance, and assemble cutterheads with knives based on production specifications. Provide input into production scheduling to order jobs so as to reduce tooling changeover times
  • Moulder Operator: Work with existing machine operator staff to complete runs, troubleshoot issues and minimize downtime to meet daily production requirements
  • Quality Control: Inspect knives for wear, damage, or improper geometry, and make necessary adjustments to meet quality standards.
  • Maintenance: Maintain grinding machines, tooling, moulders, tools, and equipment in good working condition.
  • Inventory & Organization: Organize and track templates, knives, and cutterhead inventory.
  • Collaboration: Work with all production and supervisory staff to optimize throughput. 

Skills and Experience Required:

  • To qualify for this position you MUST have at least 2-3 years experience doing grinding and sharpening of standardized tooling plus tooling setup and maintenance to meet production requirements.
  • You must have experience operating a through-feed Moulder running standard wood component profiles. Experience on a Weinig, Wadkin, SCM, Leadermac or similar, is ideal. Yates, Woods and other planer experience is acceptable.
  • Understanding of woodworking, cutterhead geometry, and operating high precision tooling grinders.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate measurements (using tools like calipers) and profile shapes.
