About Highland Valley Copper
Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operationsis Canada's largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.

Reporting to the Supervisor - Mining Systems Specialists, the Mining Systems Specialist is a site-based resource dedicated to the success of Teck Highland Valley Copper's mining technology systems and solutions. This role is responsible for the local support, maintenance, and operation of networks, applications, and OT systems required to enable AHS (Autonomous Haulage Systems) and other mining specific technologies at HVC.
To be successful, we are looking for someone with outstanding problem solving, interpersonal, and communication skills; a humble and driven individual who can remain organized and prioritize contending demands in a fast-paced team environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Provide technical support and serve as the local site contact for systems supporting the Autonomous Haulage System (AHS) at HVC, including software, servers, workstations, networks, databases, and global positioning systems.
- Act as the site-based resource amongst HVC Operational and Maintenance execution and planning leadership, Teck Digital Systems, and external vendors supporting mine operational technologies.
- Coordinate and provide onsite support for P‑LTE, Wi‑Fi, two‑way radio systems, and core in‑pit OT networks.
- Create, maintain, and analyze reports on network and communication system performance and operational metrics.
- Support development teams and assist with new and existing OT system integrations.
- Responsible for AHS access management and catalog tasks, incident tickets in Service Now, and remote access requests.
- Adhere to Teck Digital Systems change management and other policies and procedures.
- Support SIM card and wireless client programming and management for Wi-Fi and LTE networks.
- Develop and maintain network diagrams, user guides, and technical documentation for networks and systems supporting mining-specific technologies.
- Maintain and support GNSS base station hardware and software.
- Proactively support continuous improvement through the investigation, planning, and development of future technology requirements.
- Provide technical guidance and expertise to development teams and maintenance personnel.
- Able to work rotating shift schedules or be on call as required
Qualifications
- 2 to 4 years of experience delivering and supporting information technology services in an industrial setting.
- 2 to 4 years of experience working in or around an active mining operation supporting technologies such as fleet management systems, high-precision guidance, and industrial networking.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong commitment to operational excellence and project success, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent written, verbal and collaborative communications skills, with experience working in cross-functional team environments to coordinate and execute project activities.
- Demonstrated experience contributing to process improvement, standardization, or documentation initiatives, along with curiosity and a willingness to learn new technologies quickly.
- Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Windows desktop and server operating systems, virtualization, Active Directory, networking fundamentals, and database operation are required.
- Experience supporting mission‑critical OT environments, including 24/7 systems where uptime, latency, and formal incident response and root cause analysis are essential, is considered an asset.
- Expertise interfacing across the various teams and levels of Teck Digital Systems department is preferred.
- Experience with LTE and Wi-Fi network operation and support is preferred

Pay Range: CAD $93,000 - $115,000 per year
The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
Working Conditions:
- Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
- Access: This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
