As part of our team, you'll contribute to sustaining this safety-first environment, where speaking up and driving positive change are not just encouraged but expected.

The Resource Geologist plays a key role in supporting and advancing the development of geological and resource models used for mine planning, production forecasting, and long-term resource confidence. This position is ideal for a geoscientist with 3-8 years of operational or modelling experience who is ready to take on more complex modelling tasks, contribute to geological interpretation, and help drive continuous improvement in modelling workflows. Working closely with senior team members, the Resource Geologist will develop increasing independence in 3D modelling, reconciliation, and data QA/QC, while supporting junior staff and collaborating across departments.

The Resource Geologist will report to the Chief Geologist or Designate and will play a critical part in enabling reliable model and production performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate courageous safety leadership and consistently follow safety and environmental procedures.
  • Promote a work environment centered on psychological safety, inclusiveness, and respectful collaboration.
  • Perform geological data validation and QA/QC with increasing independence.
  • Interpret geological information from drillholes, mapping, sampling, and operational sources, contributing to domain definitions and geological concepts.
  • Independently develop and update 3D geological models, including surfaces, wireframes, and solids.
  • Support the development of resource models, assisting with tasks such as domaining, compositing, variography, and interpolation under guidance from senior modelers.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of modelling processes and assumptions.
  • Contribute to reconciliation workflows, including comparing model predictions to operational results.
  • Identify and communicate areas of discrepancy, recommending improvements to models or data workflows.
  • Provide input to drill planning and geological risk assessments.
  • Help identify data gaps and propose targeted drilling or data collection requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with mine engineering, geometallurgy, exploration, and geotechnical teams to support integrated mine planning.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior modelers and assist with onboarding or knowledge sharing activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve modelling efficiencies, streamline workflows, or introduce automation tools.
  • Support implementation of best practices and contribute to the evolution of modelling standards.

Qualifications

  • 3-8 years of relevant geoscience experience, ideally including mining or resource modelling.
  • Bachelor's degree in Geoscience, Geology, Earth Sciences, Geostatistics, or a related field.
  • MSc considered an asset.
  • Eligibility for or active pursuit of P.Geo. designation (designation preferred but not mandatory).
  • Strong understanding of geological principles; experience with porphyry systems is an asset.
  • Proficiency with 3D geological modelling software such as Leapfrog and/or Vulcan.
  • Solid data management and QA/QC skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage tasks independently while seeking guidance for complex challenges.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license.

Pay Range: CAD $105,000 - $130,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.

Working Conditions:
  • Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
  • Access: This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
