About Highland Valley Copper
Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operationsis Canada's largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.
Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences.
Role Overview
The Reliability Engineer Co-op position champions safety and environmental stewardship while working collaboratively to develop and implement effective asset management strategies. The successful candidate will analyze operational and equipment performance data to identify risks, optimize reliability, and reduce costs through data-driven solutions and engineering analysis. The Reliability Engineer Co-op also partners with project engineering, trades, and operators to improve the reliability and maintainability of assets, prevent repeat failures, and drive continuous improvement through innovative ideas and technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Work with a team to develop asset management strategies for asset classes and systems
- Analyze operational data and equipment performance history to evaluate production losses, failure rates, root cause analysis, regulatory compliance and the maintenance costs of equipment and processes to identify key opportunities to minimize risks
- Generate solutions by applying analysis such as data analysis techniques, failure modes, risk analysis and effects analysis to optimize cost, risk and asset performance
- Work with project engineering to ensure the reliability and maintainability of new modified installations, applying maintainability reviews, reliability block modelling and spare parts analyses where appropriate
- Liaise with trades professionals and operators to understand how a piece of equipment failed and recommend actions to prevent recurrence of the failures
- Build and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to help improve the way we do business
Qualifications
- Working towards a post-secondary degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
- Comfortable working in a dynamic industrial environment with a range of engineering, technical and operations personnel
- Willingness to work outdoors and able to operate vehicles on site in various weather conditions and terrain
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with a capacity to communicate sophisticated ideas to all levels
- Previous work experience in a technical or engineering environment is an asset
- Proficient In Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access,PowerBI) and a solid understanding of AutoCAD and SolidWorks would be advantageous
All students will be required to complete pre-employment drug testing prior to commencing work.

Pay Range: $66,725 - $82,425
The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
