Role Overview

Reporting under the Lead, Finance Business Partner (FBP), this entry-level financial analyst helps the FBP team. They provide financial reporting, analysis, and operational support to various head office functions including Legal & Sustainability, HR, and other corporate groups. The role contributes to value creation by helping standardize performance reporting and assisting with forward‑looking financial insights and analysis.

A key part of this role includes partnering closely in collaboration with the Senior Financial Analyst, who also reports to the Lead. The Junior Analyst will provide support on reporting, budgeting, and forecasting activities while learning from and partnering with the Senior Analyst on more complex analyses and projects.

Within Teck's wider Finance department, the Junior Financial Analyst will also interact with Accounting, Tax, Financial Planning & Analysis, and Treasury. The role provides hands‑on exposure to financial modelling and reporting, while contributing to clear, concise storytelling that supports improved business performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.
  • Build foundational knowledge of Teck's financial processes, tools, and systems through ongoing learning and hands‑on experience.
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives by helping update and maintain FBP processes, tools, templates, and standard reports.
  • Support core financial processes by:
  • Maintaining standard templates and documentation
  • Gathering, organizing, and validating inputs from business partners
  • Assisting in preparing basic analyses to support senior management decision‑making
  • Provide supporting analysis to help management understand encouraged financial performance and the impact of changes in key business drivers.
  • Help prepare presentation materials, reports, and information packages used by senior management.
  • Contribute to finance reviews of Appropriation Requests for capital projects by collecting data, preparing supporting materials, and assisting expert colleagues through the review process.

Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of relevant work experience or in a role with transferable abilities.
  • A degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Working towards a professional designation related to finance is preferred (e.g. Chartered Financial Analyst, Chartered Professional Accountant).
  • A self-starter who can prioritize amongst multiple projects at once and work with limited mentorship, and is able to work in an ambiguous environment with agility.
  • Ability to assist with building and updating financial models and help interpret results with guidance from senior team members.
  • Curiosity about learning about industry and developing foundational knowledge to support research and analysis tasks.
  • Good analytical skills with the ability to apply basic economic, accounting, and financial concepts to support problem‑solving.
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail and embraces a focus on personal and professional development.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills as well as strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Prior experience in the Mining sector will be considered an asset.

Pay Range: CAD $74,000 - $92,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
