Compensation: $21.45 - $25.79 per hour
Kamloops United Church (KUC) is seeking a passionate, collaborative, and community-minded Event Coordinator to lead the planning, coordination, and delivery of events.
This position is primarily responsible for coordinating events and engagement opportunities that foster a culture of radical welcome, belonging, and participation. The successful candidate will plan and oversee events, support existing programs and initiatives, recruit and support volunteers, build partnerships with local organizations, and lead communications that promote events. Through effective event coordination and community engagement, this role helps create meaningful opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds.
Key Responsibilities- Overseeing event timelines, venue setup, equipment load-ins, and floor plans.
- Lead on-site operations, supervising volunteers, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring health and safety protocols are met.
- Plan and supervise Kid’s Corner on Sunday mornings as well as be a resource for the Broadcast and Sound teams.
- Manage Coffee Bar on occasion.
- In conjunction with established committees, develop initiatives that invite greater community involvement.
- Represent KUC at community meetings, events, and partnership opportunities.
- Evaluate events and recommend improvements based on participation and community feedback.
- When needed, secure city permits, negotiate with third-party suppliers, and manage catering or other contracts.
- Volunteer development
- Communications; newsletters, website content, social media updates, event promotions, and community communications. Ensuring communications reflect KUC's values of hospitality, diversity, and inclusion.
- Administration; accurate reports, financial records, accounting of volunteer and participant participation.
Qualifications
- A diploma or degree in Event Management, Hospitality, Recreation, a related field or significant event organizing and implementation experience.
- Exceptional organization, strong written/verbal communication, and the ability to multitask in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.
- Events are on evenings and weekends, therefore a flexible schedule is needed.
- The role can involve prolonged standing and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Experience coordinating community programs, volunteer initiatives, or nonprofit projects.
- Strong organizational and project management abilities.
- Experience working collaboratively with volunteers, community organizations, and diverse stakeholder groups.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, digital communication platforms, website content management systems, and social media.
- Experience with Mailchimp, Canva, and basic website administration is considered an asset.
