KAMLOOPS UNITED CHURCH - SUNDAY SCHOOL LEADER POSITION

Hours: Part time – 5 hrs/week scheduled by the Administrative Manager Sundays from 8:45am until 11:45am plus 2 hours prep time

Compensation:  $22.00/ hour

Benefits:  Benefits include CPP, WCB, and 4% vacation paid on each cheque.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES

Kamloops United Church is seeking a friendly, reliable individual to lead our Sunday School program. The role involves preparing and leading lessons and activities for children, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment, and supporting the inclusive values of the United Church of Canada.

 The individual in this position represents KUC. They must recognize that all who enter our building are welcome. This includes members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and other marginalized groups, new Canadians (immigrants and refugees), and members of Canada’s First Nations. This individual respects the ethos of the United Church of Canada.

Job Functions:

  1. Independently lead Sunday School lessons to a group of children of a variety of ages with support from church volunteers. Provide a safe environment for children and church volunteers.
  2. Prepare for Sunday School lessons in advance as per the materials provided. In addition, prepare design and lead crafts, activities and games to supplement the lessons.
  3. Ensure the designated class area is clean, safe, and presentable for students.
  4. Create comprehensive notes to the Administrative Manager at the end of each shift with information on details of the day and any other relevant information.
  5. Assist faith community members whenever possible and engage in friendly, helpful communication. Responds to requests as directed by the KUC Administrative Manager.
  6. Attend all Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) orientation and update sessions and other educational sessions scheduled by the Administrative Manager.
  7. Participate in meetings as required.
  8. Other duties as assigned by the Administrative Manager.

 QUALIFICATIONS:

➢   Secondary School graduation or equivalent

➢   Knowledge of United Church an asset

➢   History of working with children

➢   Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
