Position Information

Location New Westminster/Coquitlam Campus Salary Range
Hourly: $52.41-$114.65/hour; Per Three Credit Course: $7,947; Actual salary or hourly rate will be based on the number of credits and term of appointment according to the Collective Agreement.

WHAT IT TAKES
As a contract instructor in written communications, you would be responsible for:

    • developing course outlines following the Curriculum Guidelines,
    • adapting course content to suit the needs of specific programs,
    • selecting appropriate textbooks and creating teaching materials,
    • delivering quality learner-centred instruction in written communications (i.e., making sure to cover a variety of business writing genres),
    • designing assignments and assessment criteria,
    • evaluating student progress,
    • holding regular office hours, and
    • maintaining currency in the field through regular professional development.

Successful applicants will have:

    • a minimum of a Master's degree in Professional Communications, or related field;
    • a minimum of two years of experience teaching courses in written communication at the post-secondary level preferred;
    • a minimum of two years experience in professional writing is an asset;
    • demonstrated ability to apply workplace writing theory to classroom practice;
    • knowledge of and expertise in workplace writing for a variety of target audiences;
    • demonstrated ability to teach and develop curriculum across the disciplines;
    • demonstrated experience teaching domestic and international students with a variety of linguistic abilities and cultural knowledge; and
    • demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a collegial and respectful manner.
Additional Information
The Communications Department is currently seeking to expand its list of contract instructors qualified to teach courses in written communications.

Courses in written communication include:

CMNS 1110: Workplace Writing for Applied Community Studies
CMNS 1111: Workplace Communications for Selected Programs
CMNS 1115: Business Communication
CMNS 1135: Professional Communication for Engineering Students

Please note that this is not an EAP or ESL teaching position.

Workload is assigned each year based on available sections.
