Salary Range: $71,846.00 - $115,129.00 per annum. Placement on the faculty salary scale is based on education, professional certification and experience and will be in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

WHAT IT TAKES
The Therapeutic Recreation Department in the Faculty of Applied Community Studies is hiring full-time and part-time regular probationary faculty members to begin August 16, 2026.
The Therapeutic Recreation Department currently offers an online Therapeutic Recreation Diploma, an on-campus 2-year Therapeutic Recreation Diploma and a 4-year Bachelor of Therapeutic Recreation degree.
You will instruct students, facilitate learning and evaluate student progress in the Therapeutic Recreation program. You will plan, organize and manage learning activities and resources, provide academic advice to learners and maintain high quality learner-centred instruction. Additional duties include building and taking part in community committees and initiatives, as well as active participation in department, faculty, and college-wide committees.
To be Successful in this Role you Will Need
• PhD preferred in Therapeutic Recreation or a closely related field. A minimum of one credential in Therapeutic Recreation is required. Strong candidates with a Masters credential may be considered.
• A Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist ( CTRS ) designation or eligibility and willingness to obtain certification by the National Council on Therapeutic Recreation Certification is required for courses students use towards NCTRC Certification.
• Post-secondary teaching experience including face-to-face and online environments and have demonstrated a strong commitment to innovative approaches to teaching including designing, teaching, and evaluating course curriculum in both in-person and online environments.
• Work experience in a therapeutic recreation environment with people of various ages and with varying abilities.
• Knowledge and expertise in one or more of the following areas:
o Physical fitness theory and practice in Therapeutic Recreation
o Understanding Indigenous perspectives and experiences
o Therapeutic Recreation interventions in older adulthood
o Therapeutic Recreation interventions for people with physical and developmental disabilities
o Advanced communication and leisure counseling skills
o Recreation leadership and facilitation skills
o Management and comprehensive program development in TR
o Community development in health and social service settings
o Theories, philosophies, and values of Therapeutic Recreation
o Diversity and inclusion, cultural responsiveness, and equity issues in leisure and recreation
o Assessment and program planning in TR
o Practicum and internship supervision skill
• Organizational structures and leadership within a team environment

The Department of Therapeutic Recreation is recognized as an innovative program leader with a strong academic and research-based curriculum that includes numerous opportunities for experiential learning throughout both the Diploma and Bachelor degree ( BTR ) programs. Graduates from the Diploma and Degree programs are career ready, and some Degree graduates continue into Graduate level programs. The Department of Therapeutic Recreation currently prepares BTR students for eligibility to become a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.
The Department is seeking full-time and part-time regular probationary faculty members to begin in the 2026-2027 academic year. We are looking for outstanding candidates who have a wide range of knowledge and expertise in therapeutic recreation.
