Position Information
Location New Westminster/Coquitlam Campus Salary Range
Min: $138,026, Control: $184,035, Max: $211,640. Placement within a salary band is typically up to Control Point based upon a review of skills, experience & internal equity. The College may place over Control point in limited circumstances.
The Opportunity
The Dean of the Faculty of Language, Literature and Performing Arts ( LLPA ) provides academic and strategic leadership to the Faculty and is responsible for planning, developing, promoting and evaluating the effectiveness of the Faculty's academic and continuing education programs. As a senior member of the Academic Division, the Dean also works closely with the Vice President, Academic and Provost to further the initiatives in the College's Strategic Plan and with the Faculty to develop and implement initiatives in accordance with the Faculty's operational plans.
The position is accountable for:
• Leadership and management of the Faculty, including hiring, developing, evaluating and disciplining employees as appropriate.
• Tactical and operational plans for the Faculty in alignment with the College's strategic plans and in accordance with the College governance requirements.
• Ongoing review and updating of existing curriculum as well as planning, development and implementation of new curriculum.
• Budgeting, resource allocation, and the financial management of the Faculty consistent with College policies, procedures and guidelines.
• Interpretation and administration of College policies and procedures, including contractual obligations.
• Development, ongoing review and communication of faculty procedures.
• Development and maintenance of external relationships appropriate to the College's strategy, operations, and strategic initiatives.
• Providing input into both the College's strategic plan and Academic Division initiatives arising from the strategic plan.
• Coordination and communication of faculty decisions and issues within the Faculty, other units of the College, Vice Presidents, and the external community.
• Quality and integrity of programs and the College's reputation in the related fields of study.
• Provision of professional development activities for the Faculty.
• Representing the Office of the Vice President, Academic and Provost, as requested.

WHAT IT TAKES
The Dean will have established professional and academic credibility as evidenced by a terminal degree (Ph.D. preferred) in one of the disciplines represented in the Faculty of Language, Literature and Performing Arts ( LLPA ). They will have a minimum of five years (5) of administrative leadership experience in a unionized post-secondary environment. In addition, they will have successfully taught at a post-secondary level for a minimum of five years (5) and could be qualified to teach in one of the disciplines in LLPA . LLPA consists of the following departments and programs: Communications, Creative Writing, English, English Language Learning and Acquisition, English Upgrading, Gender, Sexualities, and Women's Studies, Linguistics and Modern Languages, Music and Music Technology, Performing and Fine Arts, Stagecraft and Event Technology, Student Success, Theatre, and Teaching English as a Second Language.
In this role, the successful candidate will:
• Have demonstrated experience in modelling the College's Core Competencies .
• Demonstrate strong understanding of the BC public post-secondary system, including operations, legislation and shared governance
• Demonstrate a strong commitment to student-centred education in the public post-secondary system
• Have supervisory experience in a unionized environment
• Have experience working effectively within collegial governance structures
• Have demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, administration, faculty, staff and community groups
• Have demonstrated ability to advance the interests of an academic unit and the organization as a whole
• Have experience managing budgets and resources
• Have experience with policy development and implementation
• Have experience with organizational strategic planning and managing Faculty specific implementation
• Have the demonstrated ability to receive and provide constructive feedback
KEY OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES :
• Champion a student-focused culture across the Faculty and College, in alignment with the broader institutional mission, goals, values and strategic objectives.
• Advance Indigenization and Reconciliation in alignment with TRC and UNDRIP by promoting the Faculty's engagement with College Indigenization initiatives.
• Provide strategic leadership to strengthen existing offerings and support the development of new programs and credentials in response to evolving student aspirations and labour market demands.
• Cultivate an environment of transparency, consultation and collaboration as key values of the Faculty.
• Guide digital literacy in the Faculty and support faculty in navigating AI technologies and their impact on teaching, learning and academic integrity.
• Guide the Faculty's participation with and execution of the College's strategic plan.
• Facilitate scholarly activity and support faculty in research.
• Engage departments in collaborative long-term planning to ensure that Faculty objectives and the College's strategic plan are implemented.
• Safeguard the quality, integrity, and relevance of the Faculty's programs and the College's reputation of excellence.
• Oversee and support program and curriculum excellence through development, review and revision processes.
• Manage Faculty operations and financial and human resources in a sustainable and accountable manner.
• Nurture a supportive and collegial environment for faculty and staff as they engage in teaching, scholarship, and service.
• Represent the College and Faculty on external committees and groups as needed.
• Administer Collective Agreements, College policies and procedures.
