About the Opportunity

The City of Cranbrook has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Commercial Transport Mechanic, based in Cranbrook, BC.

Working in the City shop alongside other mechanics, you will be responsible for repairing and maintaining company vehicles and at times, this position will also perform the duties of a Truck Driver/Labourer.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting regular maintenance on all sorts of vehicles, including emergency ones
  • Ensuring our tools and equipment are in top-notch condition for all our mechanic duties
  • Using advanced fleet maintenance software to keep everything running smoothly
  • Diving into the intricacies of electric/electronic systems and performing maintenance on brake systems (both air and hydraulic)
  • Handling a diverse fleet (everything from fixing lawnmowers to working on Zambonis)
  • Getting involved in various city projects
  • Learning new skills and facing fresh challenges on the job
  • Dealing with a wide range of machines, from excavators to garbage trucks
  • Fostering positive vibes with a collaborative spirit among colleagues in different departments

More About You

To qualify for this role, you must have a Grade 12 Diploma or GED, as well as a minimum of 2 years of mechanic trades experience. A valid Class 3 BC Driver’s License with Air Endorsement is required (a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with Air Endorsement will also be considered).

The following skills and experience will be strong assets:

  • Heavy Duty Mechanic Certification or Truck and Transport Mechanic Certification (formerly Commercial Transport)
  • Proven expertise in repairing and maintaining electric/electronic systems and brake systems (air/hydraulic)
  • Extensive experience in the routine maintenance of motor vehicles, including emergency vehicles
  • Diligent upkeep of tools and equipment essential for mechanic duties
  • Proficiency in using computers, including familiarity with fleet maintenance software
  • Must provide a complete set of mechanic hand tools for the job
  • Ability to attain RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance
  • Seeks work-life balance, prioritizing family over extended stays in challenging work environments like mines
  • Easygoing, reliable, and possesses excellent interpersonal skills

About the Benefits

In exchange for your hard work and dedication, you will receive a highly competitive wage of $39.14 per hour (Pay Grade 9 - Schedule “B” Outside Employees), plus, additional pay per hour for the following qualifications:

  • $1.00 per hour for Commercial Vehicle Inspector 
  • $1.50 per hour for Emergency Vehicle Level 1 
  • $1.50 per hour for Emergency Vehicle Level 2
