Role Overview

Reporting to the Supervisor, Administrative Accounting, the Corporate Accounting Clerk works in a team environment. They handle complex posting and ensure timely payment of invoices for Teck's Vancouver Head Office. This position is also responsible for investigating and resolving related queries from both internal and external parties. In addition, this position involves preparing various journal entries and account reconciliations, typically assigned to the Corporate Accounting Clerk

The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, interpersonal skills, and the capacity to manage demanding deadlines is essential. Familiarity with accounts payable and receivable processes, along with intermediate proficiency in Excel, is preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader; adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.
  • Accurately set up vendor master data and enter vendor invoices promptly.
  • Review invoices to ensure accurate authorization in accordance with the delegation of authority and company policies.
  • Process manual expense reports for employees who are not credit card holders
  • Process EFT, cheques, wire transfers, and online payments.
  • Process cash receipts and accurately apply payments to the appropriate customer accounts.
  • Respond to accounts payable queries from different departments after accurate investigation
  • Prepare and enter the month-end journal entries
  • Prepare account reconciliations for delegated G/L accounts
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly tax returns (NRT, GST/HST, QST, PST)
  • Prepare quarterly Work Safe BC reports.
  • Prepare routine and ad hoc reports as requested by the Supervisor, Senior Accountant, and Accounting Assistant.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary certificate or diploma in accounting, finance, or business preferred
  • 2-5 years in AP and/or general accounting
  • A thorough knowledge of Accounts payable (A/P) / Accounts receivable (A/R) procedures and best practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across departments and levels of the organization.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics 365or SAP) is required.
  • Strong attention to detail that allows for performing repetitive tasks accurately.
  • Effective interpersonal and time management skills, capable of meeting tight deadlines.
  • Problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate discrepancies and recommend solutions.
  • Candidate should have a fundamental accounting background or knowledge (preferably working towards an accounting designation such as CPA or equivalent or have proven experience.)

Pay Range: CAD $59,000 - $73,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
