Start Date: May 4, 2026

For this exciting position, we are specifically targeting students who have a background in Computer engineering or computer science. Candidates must be enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution for the full duration of the co-op term and plan to return to their studies upon completion for at least one academic term. If you are not currently located near the work location, you must be willing to commute or temporarily relocate for the duration of the term. A valid work permit will be required where applicable.

The Telemetry & Haulage Systems Co-op, working with the Supervisor, Telemetry & Haulage, supports a high-performing team to provide and sustain pioneering digital mining technology. These technologies include autonomous and tele-remote equipment, rugged mobile computers, end-to-end sensorization of heavy equipment, and asset health systems that optimize fleet efficiency and availability via real-time tracking and monitoring.

The Telemetry Systems team is responsible for a large portfolio of business-critical systems that are used to optimize the safety, productivity, and environmental sustainability of Teck's mining operations. The successful candidate will engage with innovative software, hardware, and service suppliers to develop, deliver, and maintain these systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental policies and procedures
  • Assist in the assessment, design, implementation, and mass deployment of sensor and edge computing technology projects, focusing on improving the safety, sustainability, and productivity of Teck's mobile mining assets
  • Collect, transmit, and visualize data from heavy equipment sensors and onboard computers to end users
  • Support innovation in predictive maintenance that employs Artificial Intelligence, advanced data analytics, Cloud, and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to resolve sophisticated technical problems
  • Develop and maintain standards and documentation
  • Facilitate and support cyber-security improvements, incident response, and forensics

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Mechanical/Electrical Engineering (if combined)
  • Knowledge of General Computer Controls (GCC) related to operations, information security, and change management system software, application source code, network, electronics, command line, and system database technologies
  • Technical writing and documentation experience
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems, virtualization, Active Directory and computer networking fundamentals
  • Experience working with ServiceNow or alternative ticketing systems
  • Familiarity with Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools for generating performance metrics and measuring success ss
  • Strong dedication to customer satisfaction and the ability to maintain positive relationships with business partners, business management, end users and vendors
  • Strong cross-functional team participant and collaborative approach to problem-solving
  • Ability to work autonomously and within a highly distributed team environment
  • Excellent analytical, root cause analysis, and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals relating to wireless networking, firewalls, and common network protocols

Beneficial Competencies
  • Knowledge of serial, CANBUS, digital I/O interfaces and related communication protocols
  • Familiarity with heavy equipment communication standards (CAN, VIMS, PLM, GE etc.)
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have engaged with mining technologies and asset health or real-time systems
  • Background in WiFi and wired networks that employ an ISA-99 or a similar multi-zone security model would be an asset

Pay Range: CAD $4,100 - $5,200 per month

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
