The Climate Co-op Student intern role is a four month contract role within the Social Purpose Office. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects that support the transition to a low-carbon economy while developing valuable skills in research, data analysis and climate best practices. In this role you will help advance Coast Capital's climate action by supporting foundational initiatives aligned with our draft Climate Transition Plan. This includes contributing to climate engagement for employees, members and community, researching best practices in climate action for financial institutions, assisting in data analysis and data quality improvement plans and enhancing documentation for existing processes. You'll work closely with the Climate Action Manager to develop engagement resources, refine and strengthen establish processes and workflows, and conduct a market scan of sustainable finance opportunities to support our members and the organization's climate goals.
Accountabilities
As a Climate Co-op Student Intern, you will engage in a variety of research and analytical tasks that contribute to Coast Capital's climate strategy. This four month internship offers an opportunity to:
Support the launch of an external website resource centre development for Coast Capital members Contribute to engaging employees in climate action Support improvement of data process and data quality including enhancing documentation Update market scan of Canadian policies, incentives and rebates relevant to our members to support climate action towards the transition towards a low-carbon economy
A typical day may include:
Applying data analysis skills and data governance skills to organize data, document processes and support ongong data quality improvements Supporting the development of climate-related employee and member engagement resources Conducting comparative research on Canadian Financial Institutions and climate practices Researching sustainable finance opportunities and potential opportunities to align business lending practices Collecting and analyzing data on climate policies, financial products and services, incentives and rebates Assisting in preparing presentations and summary reports of research for internal stakeholders
What you'll learn and skills you'll build:
Data analysis & Process Improvement: Gain experience structuring and analyzing real climate datasets while enhancing processes and documentation. Data Reporting & Visualization: Gain experience in compiling, organizing, and presenting complex information from various sources in Excel, graph and written reports. Research & Policy Analysis: Gain hands-on experience in analyzing policies, financial products, and market trends related to sustainability and decarbonization. Communication & Engagement: Enhance your ability in presenting research findings clearly and concisely for diverse audiences.
Education & Experience
Must be an enrolled student in a post-secondary program at UBC, UNBC, SFU or Uvic (this is in partnership with the PICS Internship Program) Field of study/degree - knowledgeable about the field of sustainability with a focus on climate change. Experience or interest in sustainability, finance, economics or policy analysis is an asset but not required. Position is hybrid with expected attendance at a few in-person meetings at our Help Headquarters (800-9900 King George Blvd, Surrey, British Columbia) Expectation for working hours is 37.5 hours per week full-time Monday to Friday Solid data skills and comfortable using spreadsheets Good written skills Solid organizational skills Good researching and analytical skills.
