Company Profile

Day One Society (Phoenix Centre) provides substance use services and advocacy for individuals, families and communities. We have a 25-bed inpatient detox unit, outpatient youth counselling and supportive recovery programs.

Casual Status: casaul Cook staff must have good availability 7 days per week 8:30am to 5:30pm especially over peak holiday times such as Christmas and summer months.

Job Summary:

Cook must be capable of functioning independently in accordance with written instructions and menus left by the senior cook. Maintenance of kitchen area, cleanliness and sanitation as well as strict adherence to safe food preparation standards is required.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Prepares foodstuff, cook and serve regularly scheduled meals.
Washes, dries and puts away kitchen utensils and dishes.
Maintains safety, cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen appliances, counter and general area.
Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications: Education, Training and Experience:

Two years experience in general cooking, preferably in an institutional setting. Five years experience is preferable.
Cooking certificate from a recognized school representing 10 months of training.
Grade 12 or equivalent
Food Safe certificate

Skills and Abilities:

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Sound knowledge of nutritional requirements
Ability to work without supervision.
Ability to make decisions and tolerate stress.
Ability to deal with both clients and staff in respectful manner
Ability to write concise instructions and reports.
Dependable, mature attitude.
