Job Description

Horizon Recruitment is recruiting for a Senior Accountant to support the financial performance and continued growth of a multi-unit organization in the manufacturing sector.

This role offers more than traditional month-end accounting. As the financial lead for assigned business units, you will partner with operational leaders, provide technical accounting guidance, and deliver insights that support sound business decisions. You will also contribute to business transitions, process improvements, and strategic projects while working closely with senior leadership.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys solving problems, improving financial processes, and helping the business move forward.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead financial close and reporting activities across assigned business units, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial results.
  • Apply IFRS/GAAP standards to complex accounting matters and provide practical guidance to business leaders and internal stakeholders.
  • Oversee account reconciliations, investigate variances, and resolve discrepancies to maintain the accuracy and completeness of financial records.
  • Maintain effective internal controls and support consistent application of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, strengthen reporting accuracy, and increase system efficiency.
  • Analyze cost accounting data, including inventory, labor, and material costs, to help identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to resolve accounting issues and support business operations.
  • Coordinate audit activities by preparing supporting documentation and working with internal and external auditors.
  • Identify financial risks and work with relevant stakeholders to address issues and reduce reporting errors.
  • Support business unit growth, transitions, and strategic initiatives by providing reliable financial information and accounting expertise.
  • Mentor and support junior accounting team members, sharing knowledge and promoting consistent accounting practices.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation required for positions in Canada. Candidates actively pursuing their Canadian CPA will also be considered.
  • At least 5 years of experience in full-cycle accounting roles.
  • Previous manufacturing experience is required.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS/GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Experience with cost accounting, inventory analysis, and labour and material cost analysis.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong proficiency with ERP systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate discrepancies and recommend practical solutions.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex financial and accounting topics to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across teams, influence decisions, and manage competing priorities.

Remuneration:

  • $50/hr - $75/hr

Only candidates eligible to work in Canada will be considered
