Job Description

Exciting opportunity for a designated CPA to take ownership of key accounting functions within a dynamic, fast-growing, and multi-national public company. Hands-on and well-rounded role involving: financial reporting (IFRS), full month/quarter end close, inventory accounting, multi-currency & multi-entity consolidation, etc., along with the opportunity to mentor other accountants and drive meaningful process improvements.

Who – the Company:
Our client is an entrepreneurial Canadian company with a successful history and an even brighter future. The company is definitely not a start-up (it was founded many years ago, and has very seasoned leadership at the helm) but still has the buzz and excitement that comes with working for a relatively young organization. The sector is manufacturing & retail, and the company sells their products across Canada and the US. The culture is team-oriented, progressive, and fast-paced, and employees are encouraged to take ownership, to improve processes, and to grow their careers alongside the business.

What – the Role:
Reporting to the Financial Controller, the new Senior Accountant will oversee inventory and cost of goods sold (COGS) accounting, manage end-to-end accounting for retail locations, and support monthly and quarterly financial reporting, consolidation, intercompany reconciliations, and Canadian and US tax compliance. The role will also involve preparing accruals and financial analyses, supporting audits and quarterly reviews, mentoring staff accountants, strengthening internal controls, and identifying opportunities to streamline and automate accounting processes. This is a newly created position open due to company growth.  SWIM will provide interested candidates with a thorough job description.

Who – the Candidate:
  • CPA designation (or perhaps at final stages of the CPA program, with designation imminent)
  • At least 5 years and preferably 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including full ownership of a month-end close to set public-company deadlines.
  • Work experience in an inventory-based business (retail and/or manufacturing and/or distribution), including hands-on skills in inventory accounting, weighted average costing, and cost of goods sold (COGS) reconciliations.
  • Working knowledge of IFRS is required (additional exposure to ASPE and US GAAP is of course fine, but must have hands-on and recent experience with IFRS)
  • Experience supporting multi-entity and multi-currency accounting and consolidations (ideally Canada and US)
  • Public company experience is highly preferred (ideally TSX-listed).
  • Training in a public practice firm is preferred, not required.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with sound judgement and a proactive approach to process improvement.
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with multiple internal and external stakeholders in a fast-paced, evolving business environment
  • Systems:
    • Familiarity with midsized financial systems and ERPs.
    • Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with large data sets and complex reconciliations.
    • Experience with Power BI or similar reporting and data visualization tools is an asset
    • Experience with MS CoPilot, Claude, and other AI tools in a work setting is highly preferred
    • Ability and eagerness to optimize, integrate, and leverage systems to make accounting processes more efficient and accurate
How Much:
Competitive base salary commensurate with level of skills, experience, and education, in the range of $80,000 to $100,000 (please note that for the top end of the range, candidates will need to have all desired qualifications, and 7 years of relevant work experience).
The company will provide their new Senior Accountant with a solid overall compensation package, including a discretionary and performance-based bonus, a generous employee share purchase program, professional development support for CPA, excellent health, dental, & vision benefits, and other fantastic perks!

Where:
Downtown Vancouver in a beautiful office, very accessible by rapid transit.
