Position Information

Location New Westminster/Coquitlam Campus Salary Range
$71,846 to $115,129 annually. Salary scale and wage increments are in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
The Opportunity
Douglas College Learning Centre invites applications for a Regular Probationary Faculty. Reporting to the Director, Learning Resources & Records Management, the successful candidate will be based at the New Westminster Campus and will also have a presence at the Coquitlam Campus.

The Douglas College Learning Centre [LC] provides in-person and online writing skills support, content tutoring, and learning and study skills help. LC faculty coordinate the Centre's peer tutoring program in collaboration with LC staff and administration. They partner with course instructors to plan and deliver writing, learning, and study skills support. They also collaborate with colleagues across the College to support students. This particular faculty position will primarily work with tutors who offer support for non-writing courses in Commerce & Business, Health Sciences, and Science & Technology.

WHAT IT TAKES
Learning Centre Faculty Responsibilities
• Plan, deliver, evaluate, and improve peer tutor training program in alignment with relevant tutor training standards.
• Train, support, mentor, and evaluate peer tutors in their work delivering writing, content, and learning skills tutoring.
• Consult with LC Staff in the peer tutor hiring process.
• Partner with faculty in their disciplines to create and deliver customized workshops and develop instructional resources that address identified learner needs, complement classroom instruction, and integrate skill development to enhance students' learning outcomes.
• Collaborate with Student Affairs colleagues to offer one-on-one appointments to academically-at-risk students and develop individualized learning plans.
• Contribute to the daily operations of the Learning Centre in close collaboration with the Learning Centre Supervisor and Staff and the Associate Director, Learning Resources.
• Collaborate with LC staff and administration, as well as colleagues across the College, on the development of LC academic support services goals.
• Participate actively in professional organizations geared toward academic support in the post-secondary context to inform the ongoing development of LC services and programs.
• Contribute to ongoing LC service and program development in collaboration with the LC Team.
• Participate in Learning Centre, Learning Resources, and College-wide teams and committees to advance projects and initiatives in support of student engagement and development.

Requirements

    • Minimum Master's degree in education or a discipline directly related to Douglas College students' academic support needs.
    • Preference given to candidates with experience related to courses offered by the faculties of Commerce & Business, Health Sciences, and/or Science & Technology.
    • Additional certification in tutor training, teaching, instruction, or related area would be an asset.
    • Experience working in a post-secondary-level tutoring or other academic support centre.
    • Experience with successful collaborative teaching and/or team teaching at the post-secondary level.
    • Pedagogical understanding of peer-led learning, active learning, universal design for learning, and the needs of a full range of adult learners. This includes experience with adult education pedagogy, specifically related to college readiness and first-year transitions.
    • Knowledge of learning skills development and the peer tutoring approach for providing academic support to students.
    • Experience supporting and advocating for diverse student needs, including those of multilingual students, international students, and mature students.
    • Innovative use and integration of online tools for communication, training, teaching and scheduling, including learning management systems and Office365 applications.
    • Proven interpersonal and intercultural communication skills, both oral and written.
    • Demonstrated ability to work well both independently and collaboratively.
    • Ability to manage change effectively in a rapidly changing, diverse, and dynamic collegial team environment.
    • Demonstrated interest and ability in actively contributing to College-wide academic support initiatives and committees.
    • Preference given to candidates with involvement and/or active membership in professional organizations related to learning assistance, tutoring, or a related discipline.
Additional Information
This half-time regular probationary position is available September 1, 2026.

This position is primarily based at the New Westminster campus, and will include work at Coquitlam as needed to ensure sufficient coverage in the Learning Centre.

The successful candidate may be required to work occasional evenings and/or Saturdays.

Workload is assigned each year based on available sections.
