The Opportunity
The Institute of Urban Ecology ( IUE ) at Douglas College has been involved in a myriad of community-based activities and project. These projects include: environmental outreach and education programs.
The student assistant will support the Institute of Urban Ecology ( IUE ) by delivering environmental education workshops in French at various school across Metro Vancouver. This role involves traveling to different locations, facilitating workshops, and engaging with K-12 students.

WHAT IT TAKES
To be Successful in this Role You Will Need:
- The candidate should be proficient in French to at least the Intermediate level and, ideally, have a working knowledge of ecology.
- They should be comfortable leading activities in a classroom setting to diverse groups and passionate about education and knowledge-sharing.
- They must be able to travel to the K-12 schools, one day a week.
- A valid driver's license and access to a car are assets for this position
Responsibilities:
- Assistant will be trained to deliver IUE workshops. The workshop content and material will have already been translated into French.
- After training, the assistant will travel to French and French immersion school across Metro Vancouver and deliver the workshop to students.
- We expect that the assistant will deliver a total of 12 workshops (3 per day x 1 day a week x 4 weeks).
Domestic students must meet ONE of the following criteria, to be eligible to work as a Student Assistant/Student Research Assistant:
• The domestic student must be enrolled in, and maintain, a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College throughout the work term; OR
• The domestic student must have been enrolled in, and maintained, a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College in the term immediately preceding the work term and has indicated an intention to enroll at the college in the term immediately following the work term; OR
• The domestic student must be enrolled in, and maintain a minimum of two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. throughout the work term
International students must meet ONE of the following criteria, to be eligible to work as a Student Assistant/Student Research Assistant:
1. The international student must be enrolled in, and maintain a minimum of 9 credits at Douglas College, throughout the Summer term; OR
2. The international student must be enrolled in, and maintain a minimum of 3 credits in the Summer term, AND must have been enrolled in at least 9 credits for each of the preceding Fall and Winter terms; OR
3. The international student, if he/she is a new student to Douglas College as of the Winter term, must have been enrolled in full-time studies (a minimum of 9 credits for the Winter term) AND must be enrolled in, and maintain a minimum of 3 credits in the Summer term; OR
4. An international student, who is not a Douglas College student, but is an international student at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C., is eligible to work at Douglas College only if he/she has a valid Study Permit.
With the notation - "May accept employment on or off campus if meeting eligibility criteria as per R186 (F), (V) or (W). Must cease working if no longer meeting these criteria." Proof of enrollment in full-time studies from the other post-secondary institution is required.
An original copy of a Social Insurance Number ( SIN ) and an original Study Permit are required by law before commencing work at Douglas College.
Qualified Douglas College students meeting the above criteria will be given first preference over students of other qualifying institutions.
