About the Opportunity

Łuwechōn Kots’ede’i Kime is looking for a full-time, committed K/1 Teacher to join our team in Iskut, BC.

Reporting to the Principal, you will take an active role in shaping a welcoming, student-centred classroom while supporting a culturally grounded learning environment that honours the Tahltan Nation.

In this position, you will be primarily responsible for engaging students through inquiry-based teaching, supporting academic and personal growth, and participating in cultural and community-based learning. We are looking for teachers who are not only passionate about education, but who are also eager to embrace Indigenous culture, build meaningful relationships, and become part of the community.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Delivering engaging, inquiry-based and project-based lessons aligned to individual student needs
  • Developing and overseeing individual learning plans to support diverse academic, physical, or behavioural needs
  • Supporting student participation in cultural learning, including on-the-land activities such as fishing, hunting, medicine harvesting, and traditional arts
  • Collaborating regularly with Educational Assistants, Cultural Workers, community Knowledge Keepers, and allied professionals such as speech-language pathologists or occupational therapists
  • Participating in student evaluations, maintaining accurate records, and attending parent-teacher conferences
  • Enforcing school discipline policies, managing classroom behaviour, and modelling professionalism and confidentiality
  • Creating an inclusive and student-centered classroom that fosters emotional, social, and cultural development
  • Actively engaging with and building strong relationships within the Iskut community
  • Participating in school events, extracurricular activities, and ongoing professional development
  • Maintaining student safety during classroom activities, outdoor learning, field trips, and all other school-based experiences
About You

To qualify, you must have a Bachelor of Education and current, unrestricted teaching certification from BC or another Canadian province. Teaching experience is strongly preferred, particularly in a First Nations or Indigenous learning environment.

International or conditional certifications, as well as ECE or EA credentials without a valid teaching certification, do not meet provincial requirements for this role.

The following are required:

  • Ability to undergo a criminal record and vulnerable sector check
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Willingness to relocate to Iskut, BC, and live in a remote community

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Experience supporting students with diverse academic, physical, or behavioural needs
  • Knowledge of culturally responsive and trauma-informed teaching practices
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Familiarity with inquiry-based and student-centred learning approaches
  • Experience working in or alongside Indigenous communities
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • Flexibility and adaptability in dynamic educational settings
  • Confidence using technology and educational software in the classroom

As our ideal candidate, you will bring a student-first mindset, excellent communication skills, and a genuine interest in connecting with students, families, and the wider community. You are respectful, open to learning, and motivated to grow your teaching practice in a culturally grounded environment.

This is a meaningful opportunity for a teacher who is excited to contribute to something larger than themselves. If you value purpose, adventure, and deep connection, this role invites you to become part of a community that welcomes those who show up with care and commitment. By staying long enough to build trust and continuity, you will play a vital role in helping students thrive both in the classroom and in their wider lives!

About the Benefits

This role offers a competitive salary ranging from $82,133 to $116,522, along with a comprehensive benefits package. Salary based on the 2026 SD#87 grid; please check the BCTF website for the most up-to-date information.
