Job Description

Horizon Recruitment is recruiting for a Project Accountant / Project Cost Controller to support the financial management and reporting of a portfolio of construction projects. This role will bring together project costs, forecasts, schedules, contracts, and cash flow information to give project leaders and executives a clear view of financial performance. Working closely with Finance, Project Management, Scheduling, and Contracts teams, this position will help identify cost trends, explain variances, and improve the accuracy of project forecasts. The role reports structurally to the director of finance, with functional reporting to the project directors and executive teams.

Responsibilities

  • Manage financial reporting for construction projects, including actuals, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Analyze project performance and explain key cost and forecast variances.
  • Apply earned value management principles to track project progress and financial performance.
  • Pull and analyze project cost information from ERP and contract documentation.
  • Monitor vendor costs, commitments, accruals, and project spending.
  • Prepare regular cash flow forecasts covering expected project inflows and outflows.
  • Review contract terms to understand funding arrangements, payment schedules, discounts, and other financial requirements.
  • Work with project schedulers and contract teams to connect financial results with project progress and contractual commitments.
  • Gather information from multiple internal stakeholders to produce accurate and timely project reporting.
  • Track productivity and other project performance measures that may affect cost and forecast outcomes.
  • Provide clear financial updates and analysis to the Project Director, Director of Finance, and executive leadership.
  • Identify emerging cost risks, reporting gaps, and opportunities to improve financial controls.

Requirements

  • 5+ years Experience in project accounting, financial analysis, cost control, or construction finance.
  • Strong understanding of budgets, forecasts, actual costs, and variance analysis.
  • Experience working with construction or other large, project-based environments.
  • Ability to understand contract terms, funding models, payment schedules, and their financial impact.
  • Experience with ERP systems and extracting financial information for reporting.
  • Strong Excel, financial analysis, and reporting skills.
  • Experience working with project managers, schedulers, contracts teams, and senior leadership.
  • Knowledge of earned value management and asset.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to combine information from several sources.
  • Primavera P6 experience is an asset.

Remuneration

  • Salary range of $80,000 to $110,000, depending on experience.
