About the OpportunityFerro Building Systems Ltd. is looking for a full-time Junior Estimator based in Surrey, BC, with the opportunity to work from home up to one day per week following the probationary period.
Reporting to the VP of Sales and working closely with the Senior Estimator, you will support Ferro’s sales and estimating function by coordinating supplier pricing, helping strengthen buyouts, and building a reliable supplier and sub-trade database.
In this position, you will be primarily responsible for sourcing and organizing pricing from suppliers and service vendors, supporting proposal submissions, and helping ensure estimates are completed with the right inputs under tight timelines.
More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and service vendors to secure competitive pricing and reliable service
- Sourcing pricing for buyouts and accessory scopes such as windows, doors, louvers, snow guards, specialty items, and similar add-ons
- Preparing and issuing bid packages to suppliers using tendering platforms (e.g., BuildingConnected) and tracking responses
- Supporting the Senior Estimator by gathering pricing inputs and reviewing them together to confirm what is included
- Supporting proposal preparation with the sales team to help deliver complete, client-ready submissions
- Prequalifying and expanding Ferro’s supplier and sub-trade database to improve competitiveness
- Participating in weekly sales meetings and collaborating with sales, estimating, and project teams
- Documenting and organizing supplier quotes and pricing information so it can be reused across future bids
- Under a mentorship and career-path track, assisting with reviewing drawings and specifications to understand scope requirements and bid preparation fundamentals
This role is designed as a development opportunity, with structured mentorship from the Senior Estimator and exposure to increasingly complex estimating activities over time. As you build familiarity with Ferro’s systems, suppliers, and estimating approach, there will be opportunities to take on greater responsibility and progress into a more advanced estimating role.
About YouTo qualify, you ideally have 1–3 years of experience in construction estimating or a related trade or supply environment. We also welcome recent graduates of estimating or construction-related programs to apply. This role is well suited to someone early in their career who is eager to learn estimating processes, develop industry knowledge, and grow their responsibilities over time.
Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:
- Experience supporting estimating activities or pricing exercises for construction projects, ideally within commercial or industrial environments
- Familiarity with construction drawings and specifications as they relate to preparing bids or supplier pricing
- Awareness of supplier or subcontractor coordination, bid packages, and RFIs, gained through exposure rather than independent ownership
- Interest in building relationships with suppliers and service vendors, including sourcing, prequalifying, and maintaining pricing contacts
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to track multiple pricing requests and support the Senior Estimator under defined timelines
- Clear communication skills and a collaborative working style when engaging with suppliers and internal teams
- Familiarity with proposal documentation or CRM systems in a support capacity (asset)
- Exposure to structural components, building materials, or pre-engineered building accessories such as windows, doors, louvers, or similar scopes (asset)
As our ideal candidate, you are curious, patient, and open to mentorship, with the ability to absorb feedback and develop new skills over time. You are comfortable supporting others, take pride in accurate work, and approach learning with a long-term mindset. You are looking for an opportunity to build a strong foundation in estimating while developing into a more advanced role as your experience grows.
This is an opportunity to learn the estimating process from the ground up, contribute meaningfully through supplier pricing and relationship-building, and progress into greater responsibility as part of Ferro’s long-term growth plan.
