Position Information

Location Hybrid / Coquitlam Campus Salary Range
Salary band 14 (Minimum - $111,289.00, Control Point - $148,385.00, Maximum - $170,643.00). Placement within a salary band is typically up to the Control Point based on a review of skills, experience and internal equity. The College may place over Control Point in limited circumstances.
The Opportunity
Under the direction of the Dean, Applied Community Studies ( ACS ), the Associate Dean provides day-to-day leadership for the credit and non-credit programs in the Faculty of Applied Community Studies. The Associate Dean coordinates with faculty, staff and administration on planning, program development and review, budgeting, and evaluation of faculty. This position oversees scheduling and work assignments, is responsible for ensuring quality standards, handles complaints, grievances and appeals and performs other duties as required across the College.

WHAT IT TAKES

    • A graduate degree in a field relevant to Applied Community Studies from an accredited post-secondary institution (PhD preferred).
    • A minimum of five years teaching experience in a post-secondary institution.
    • A minimum three years of experience in academic administration, including managing student issues, program planning and development, and human resources within a post-secondary institution or another organization relevant to the Faculty of Applied Community Studies.
    • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
    • Ability to meet the qualified to teach determination in at least one department or program within the College.
    • Demonstrated interpersonal and relationship-building capabilities including: the ability to foster teamwork and facilitate collaborative working relationships; mediation skills; and the ability to build consensus among diverse groups.
    • Demonstrated organizational and time-management skills, including computer competencies.
    • Proven capacity to manage change and demonstrated ability to drive innovations from conception through to implementation.
    • Proven leadership ability.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills and an ability to present arguments clearly and effectively for a range of audiences.
    • A demonstrated understanding or experience of the work undertaken by the Faculty of Applied Community Studies.
    • Demonstrated abilities that align with the Douglas College Core Competency Framework.

Additional Information

    • This regular full-time position is available June 1, 2026.
    • Regular hours of work are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday.
    • Travel between Douglas College's locations as required.
    • Travel for business may be required on occasion
