Speech and Language Pathologist
It is acknowledged that Central Okanagan Public Schools operates within the unceded, Traditional Territory of the Okanagan syilx peoples. The School District enrolls over 25,000 students (including approximately 3,200 students who self-identify as having First Nations, Metis, and/or Inuit ancestry from Canada). Central Okanagan Public Schools is located in the Central Okanagan encompassing the communities of Peachland, West Kelowna, Kelowna, and Lake Country. There are a total of 50 school sites with 32 Elementary Schools, 8 Middle schools, 5 Secondary Schools, 3 Learning Centres, an Alternate Education School, and an Online Learning School (K-12). Central Okanagan Public Schools (School District No. 23), Kelowna BC, provides education services to 23,000 students in the communities of Peachland, West Kelowna, Kelowna, Lake Country and the Regional District of Central Okanagan.
Successful applicants will:
• Have training at the Master's Degree level and experience as a Speech/Language Pathologist.
• be registered with CSHBC;
• be able to provide assessment, remediation and consultative help for children with disorders in communication;
• be able to provide programs and services for children with a wide range of communication disorders (voice, language, articulation/phonology, fluency) and augmentative/alternative communication needs;
• be able to work with a wide variety of support professionals
• be prepared to assist school based teams to develop appropriate IEPs
• be prepared to use technology (e.g.: computers, voice-mail, e-mail, web sites, MyEd BC) for planning, attendance monitoring, communication, and reporting purposes
• be prepared to support the school and district goals.
Preference will be given to those applicants who:
- have experience working collaboratively in classrooms with teachers to develop classroom plans for students with speech language concerns;
- have experience providing liaison with programs offered by external agencies;
- have experience providing liaison between home and school for children in need of social, emotional and behavioural support;
- are willing to work in a collaborative/team environment;
- develop appropriate programs to support students with speech language concerns.
The starting annual salary for this teaching position ranges from $57,972 to $106,217, with placement on the range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement.
