The Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship is accountable for integrated land and natural resource management, including objective setting for land and marine environments, effectively managing cumulative effects, and advancing reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, environmental sustainability, and economic growth.

As the Fisheries Research Technologist, you will be the lead project coordinator for two spawning channels in the region. Responsibilities include biological data collection on fish, management of the data and reporting. You will be responsible for coordinating and administration of contracts. You will be required to present data and updates to technical teams, funding agencies and the public.

Job Requirements:
  • Minimum of a diplomain a natural resource field.
  • Experience performing technical duties and working with key statutes that support natural resource management.
  • Experience with field data collection compilation and analysis.
  • Experience with fish inventory and handling.
  • Experience working in partnership with a variety of project partners.

Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:
  • Experience in negotiating/mediating solutions in natural resource management.
  • Experience (1 or more years) leading staff in project or field settings.
  • Experience with contracts; preparation, monitoring performance and authorizing payment.
  • Experience working at spawning channels or other fisheries equivalent experience.
  • Experience (1 or more years) with Microsoft Office; specifically, Excel.
  • Experience working with large datasets historic datasets and databases
  • Experience working with First Nations
  • Electrofishing certification

Willingness Statements
  • Must possess and maintain a valid British Columbia Class 5 driver's licence.
  • Must be willing to live on site at two spawning channel locations (Meadow Creek (north of Kaslo) and or Hill Creek (north of Nakusp)) during regular work weeks for portions of April through November (housing is provided).
  • Must be physically able to carry equipment and supplies in difficult terrain.
  • Willingness to conduct field work in all weather conditions and environments. This may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in camp conditions and operation of a variety of equipment.
  • Willingness to work evenings, nights and/or weekends when operations of projects are required.
