Job Description

The Workplace Essential Skills Training Program at the Cowichan campus will require a part-time regular instructor/coordinator for all of the courses outlined in Modules 1 through 6. Duties include: instruct course(s); prepare course materials; instruct individual and group lessons; provide student support, evaluate, and grade; liaise with department chair and participate as an active member of the ACP Faculty team; participate in staff meetings and committees as required. This position requires coordinating responsibilities and community outreach during designated administration time.

Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning, and student success through ongoing professional training, subject currency, and institutional service. Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support, institutional, faculty and department committees, meetings and other initiatives, and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.

Required Qualifications:

Masters degree in a relevant discipline from an appropriately accredited institution; teacher training or proven related experience in teaching adults demonstrated by the equivalent of 1 year full-time teaching experience with corroborating positive evaluations.

  • Demonstrated ability and recent relevant experience teaching adults with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to instruct the subject area(s) identified. Skills, experience and sensitivity in particular disability issues in relation to disadvantaged adult learners.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and problem solving skills in dealing with students.
  • Ability to access and develop course materials.
  • Well-developed skills in working with a team in conjunction with an ability to work independently.
  • Experience working in career development and life skills fields with with neurodivergent participants.
  • Experience promoting access and inclusion in community based settings.

Upon offer of employment, successful applicant(s) must complete and sign a Consent to a Criminal Record Check form as per the Criminal Records Review Act.

Starting Salary:
Faculty are placed on the BCGEU salary scale based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement, to an initial maximum of $89,412 per annum


Workload:
This regular part-time position is a combination of instructional and coordination hours. Direct Instructional hours: Fall 2/24, Spring 4/24, Intersession 6/24 plus year-round 3/24 direct instructional hours of coordination which convert to 4.375 non-instructional hours per week.
