Job Description

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program follows a concept-based curriculum, and promotes the integration of concepts across several health contexts including health promotion, gerontology, acute and chronic health challenges, community nursing, and mental health areas.

Duties:

  • Faculty are responsible for preparing and delivering classes, designing and grading student assignments and tests, and facilitating student integration of theory and practice. Faculty will also participate in program and faculty meetings, liaise with support staff, other staff and faculty. Vancouver Island University places an emphasis on teaching excellence and also encourages scholarly activity and community involvement.
  • Successful candidates will be responsive to diverse cultural and academic backgrounds and learning styles.
  • Candidates with the minimal qualification (BSN and 5 years experience) will be restricted to instruction for the following courses: NURS104; NURS111; NURS114; NURS175; NURS201; NURS204; NURS211; NURS214; NURS275
  • This position may require travel to a variety of practice settings on Vancouver Island.

Required Qualifications:

  • Completed BSN Degree from an appropriately accredited institution and current practicing membership in good standing with the BCCNM.
  • Five years of full-time recent practice experience in different contexts of care.
  • Ability to meet the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a dynamic and creative program team.
  • Proficiency with the application and integration of information technology to teaching.
  • Experience with, and knowledge of, Indigenous ways of knowing and being.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience as a clinical educator. PhD from an appropriately accredited institution, or a Master's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and three years teaching experience.
Starting Salary:
$8,196.30 per assigned course consisting of three workload hours. The rate for any courses requiring fewer or greater hours shall be prorated based on this standard.
