Role Overview

Reporting to the Central Shops Superintendent, the Group Leader, Shops is responsible for Trail's machine shop or Trails steel Fabrication and Welding shop.

To be successful, we require someone with excellent supervisory, decision-making and prioritization skills with a high standard for performance and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Follow the Teck reliability and maintenance process in prioritizing, planning and scheduling crews to maximize utilization and equipment availability.
  • Assign tasks and monitor progress to ensure quality and efficiency adhere to defined standards. Provide personnel effectiveness appraisal for direct reports based on individual & team outputs
  • Respond to operational needs by reassigning trade resources for unplanned work with follow-up to continuously minimize unplanned work
  • Assist personnel by investigating maintenance problems, recommending solutions, providing technical direction and advice and providing assistance in the selection of equipment
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to coordinate maintenance work and ensure work is performed according to regulatory and Trail Operations standards
  • Work collaboratively with operations, maintenance, and reliability teams to provide real-time equipment condition into the development of asset management plans
  • Ensure a well-trained crew by using performance management principles implementing training programs, scheduling employees for training and evaluating on the job performance
  • Follow the Teck Reliability & Maintenance process and utilized JDE to maintain master data for parts and equipment information and capture repair and failure history for improvement
  • Assist with cost management by preparing section budget, monitoring costs and understanding variances
  • Participate in the investigation and resolution of personnel and union conflicts
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities utilizing performance management techniques as outlined in the Supervisor's Manual

Qualifications

  • Trades certification, bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent is required
  • 2 years minimum relevant experience
  • Experience supervising and managing a team an asset
  • Experience managing multiple trades is an asset
  • Experience with maintenance processes and system software an asset
  • Good computer skills including Microsoft Office

Pay Range: CAD $107,000 - $132,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
