About Karakoram Restaurant
Karakoram is an authentic Middle Eastern and Pakistani restaurant located in East Vancouver, offering rich, traditional flavours and hospitality to our guests. We are a growing, operations-focused business offering in-house dining, hosting for private and corporate events, large-scale catering, and commercial food production, and we are now ready to bring in an experienced Finance Manager to support our next stage of growth.
The Opportunity
This is a hands-on, operational finance role—not just routine bookkeeping.
You will own the financial health of the business, build and improve systems, and work closely with ownership and location supervisors to drive profitability, control costs, and support smart decisions across the restaurant.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Controls
- Oversee and manage all financial activities of the restaurant, ensuring accurate and timely accounting, reporting, and reconciliations.
- Design, implement, and continually improve financial frameworks and internal controls tailored to restaurant operations (cash handling, petty cash, purchasing, inventory, and payroll).
- Monitor cash flow, working capital, and payment cycles to ensure the business remains financially healthy and stable.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis
- Lead the budgeting and forecasting process in collaboration with ownership and management, including revenue projections, expense planning, and labour cost management.
- Prepare variance analyses and recommend corrective actions when performance does not meet targets.
- Develop and refine financial forecasting tools and scenario analyses to evaluate menu changes, pricing decisions, promotions, and expansion plans.
Operational Finance for Restaurant Environment
- Supervise the accounts payable process and ensure vendors, suppliers, and service providers are paid accurately and on time.
- Review purchasing patterns, food and labour costs, and other key cost centres to identify savings and efficiency opportunities.
- Monitor financial trends and key restaurant KPIs (e.g., food cost %, labour cost %, average cheque size, table turnover, etc.) and highlight risks and opportunities to ownership.
Reporting & Business Partnering
- Lead the preparation and consolidation of financial reports, including monthly income statements, cash flow summaries, and management dashboards.
- Translate financial results into clear, practical insights for ownership and location supervisors to support daily operational and long-term strategic decisions.
- Set performance benchmarks for profitability across menu items, business lines (dine-in, takeout, delivery, catering), supplier agreements, and capital expenditures.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Hire, train, and supervise location supervisors or admin staff responsible for providing financial and operational data.
- Ensure front-of-house and back-of-house teams understand and follow financial policies (cash handling, discounts, voids, comps, staff meals, etc.).
- Build a culture of accountability, accuracy, and timeliness in all financial and administrative processes.
External Relations & Compliance
- Serve as the main point of contact for external accountants, auditors, financial institutions, and other professional advisors.
- Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards, payroll regulations, tax requirements, and any other relevant regulatory obligations.
- Review and assess financial systems and accounting practices regularly, recommending improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and cost control.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, or a related role.
- A master’s degree in business administration (MBA), preferably with a concentration in finance
- Experience in restaurant, hospitality, or multi-location retail operations is a strong asset.
- Solid understanding of Canadian accounting and payroll practices.
- Strong skills in Excel/Google Sheets and accounting software (experience with QuickBooks Online or similar is an asset).
- Proven ability to design or improve financial processes, controls, and reporting.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, juggling multiple priorities, and meeting deadlines.
- Clear communication skills, with the ability to explain financial concepts in simple, practical language to non-finance team members.
- Leadership experience supervising staff or coordinating cross-functional teams is an asset.
