The Opportunity
The Sport Science department at Douglas College provides Diplomas in Sport Science with specializations in Kinesiology and Health and Recreation, a Bachelor of Physical Education and Coaching with available kinesiology or health promotion concentrations, and a Graduate Diploma in Physical and Health Education. The BPEC Coordinator position is integral to the leadership team and student experience in the Sport Science department.
The primary functions of the BPEC Coordinator are:
a. to, in partnership with the Chair, coordinate all aspects of BPEC Degree; and
b. to act as a part of the SPSC Coordination Team for additional assigned department work.

WHAT IT TAKES

The primary functions of the BPEC Coordinator are:
• to, in partnership with the Chair, coordinate all aspects of BPEC Degree; and
• to act as a part of the SPSC Coordination Team for additional assigned department work.
• Degree Advising
- Listed as the contact person for the BPEC program. Receive emails/phone calls regarding entrance requirements, transfers, grad requirements, etc., from potential and current students and SPSC faculty
- Be involved in department information and orientation sessions
• Degree Administration
- Conduct BPEC Annual Review of Student Academic Standards
- Advertising and admissions
- Advising Chair on BPEC course planning in annual Ed Plans
- Working closely with Fieldwork Placement Coordinator on all aspects of BPEC fieldwork requirements
- Working with Fieldwork Placement Coordinator on BPEC 'Non-Academic' graduation requirements
- Complete Annual Program Review as required by the College
- Work closely with registrar's office on BPEC graduation related issues
• Scholarship Committee Chair
- Review scholarship submissions for awards
- Produce scholarship application forms and post on the SPSC Scholarship website
- Update and maintain the SPSC scholarship website
- Plan/organize the annual scholarship banquet
• Community Outreach
- Raising awareness and profile of BPEC degree in the community
• Communications
- Oversee BPEC website content and updating
- Review and edit marketing materials related to BPEC
The successful candidate must have the following minimum qualifications:
• Masters Degree in the area of Education and/or Kinesiology (or related field) (PhD preferred)
• Teaching experience, preferably at the college or university level
• Work experience in the school system as administrator and/or teacher would be an asset
• Knowledge of Blackboard (or other online learning platform), Excel, and Microsoft; knowledge of Banner would be an asset
• Strong interpersonal skills with students, staff, faculty and site supervisors
• Proven ability to problem solve day to day issues
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with other coordinators and faculty on Department wide issues and with faculty on Fieldwork/Coaching issues
• Able to work independently on projects
• Ability to create and maintain a professional network relevant to student needs
• Strong verbal, written and communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to supervise, organize, plan and schedule, train and motivate and adjust to a changing environment
Additional Information
The Sport Science Department in the Faculty of Science & Technology is seeking a Coordinator for the Bachelor of Physical Education & Coaching ( BPEC ) Program.
This limited-term faculty coordinator position will run from September 1, 2026 to August 31, 2027 with possible extension to August 31, 2029. The position carries a two-section time release per academic year. This position may require travel between the New Westminster and Coquitlam campuses.
