We are seeking an experienced Certified Red Seal Service Electrician with a minimum of 10+ years of experience with electrical power & control systems and a sound understanding of the Canadian Electrical Code and regulations. The Service Electrician will report to the Maintenance Manager and will work through the direction of the Chief Engineer, providing trade qualified Electrician support with specific Building & Grounds Maintenance tasks, PMs Event setup support and project-based work as assigned where applicable on and throughout all the PNE Facilities on the PNE grounds.

What will you do this year?

In your role as an Electrician, your primary accountabilities will be to:

  • Responsible for electrical maintenance of Facilities & Grounds utility infrastructure, adhering to the Canadian Electrical Code, CSA, ASTM, and all regulatory standards.
  • Perform installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and safety standards.
  • Read and interpret drawings, shop orders, schematics, and electrical system specifications to determine the layout and proper installation of electrical equipment.
  • Install electrical wiring, boxes, panels, devices, feeders, cable assemblies, lighting fixtures and other electrical components including bonding and earthing installation.
  • Terminate and test electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage and resistance.
  • Maintain, repair, test and install electrical motors, generators, industrial storage batteries and hydraulic and pneumatic electrical controls.
  • Ability to detect, diagnose, maintain, and repair electrical systems
  • Responsible for performing all aspects of electrical inspection activities with minimum supervision.
  • Perform equipment inspections to ensure compliance with regulatory, manufacturer, and engineering specifications.
  • Prepare and maintain quality records pertaining to assigned work and produce professional-level technical reports.
  • Utilize CMMS program ((Limble) to record work, in alignment with regulatory standards
  • May be responsible for maintenance of facilities and associated outside services.
  • Plan and organize the Electrical workload in alignment with operational objectives.
  • Write technically and effectively to produce professional level reports.
  • Participate and lead safety related discussion in Toolbox Talks meetings.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
  • Safely operate mobile equipment (forklifts, scissor lifts, zoom booms).
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What else?

  • Must be a certified Red Seal Journey Electrician or Certified Industrial Electrician
  • Must have a sound understanding of the Canadian Electrical Code and regulations.
  • Must have at least 8-10 years of experience with electrical power & control systems.
  • Previous experience in commercial and/or industrial field including troubleshooting, quality control, and/or pre-commissioning activities.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply information depicted in electrical schematics.
  • Proficient use of all required electrical test equipment and CMMS program.
  • Must have knowledge and experience with safe work practices involving use of electrical and/or instrumentation testing equipment, such as, meggers and multi-meters.
    Capable of troubleshooting PLC’s, motor control and control wiring, valves, transmitters, and work with Panel Operator to execute loop checks.
  • Knowledge of low voltage data systems and high voltage systems is an asset.
  • Must be capable of working at heights (up to 70 metres)
  • Ability to operate aerial lift equipment such as scissor lifts and zoom booms.
  • Ability to recognize and anticipate potential hazards, take precautions, and follow all safety protocols & procedures.
  • Ability to work in a team environment or individually with a positive attitude.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy, and flexibility to work effectively with management, staff, contractors and guests.
  • Ownership of tools, and safety boots a must.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
  • Required to meet the physical demands of the job including weights of up to 23kg, heights of 70m, frequent standing, walking, twisting, reaching, bending, crawling and ability to work with ladders.
  • Valid BC Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts including evenings and weekends as required.
  • This position requires Union membership with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) - Local 213 upon employment.
  • Successful candidates must undergo a Criminal Record Check.
