Job Overview
The Coordinator, Central Advising & Systems Support (CASS) provides supervisory, outreach, and administrative support for the Central Advising Team and functional support for advising technologies to increase institutional retention. The incumbent will provide functional support for academic advising technologies and core advising processes that underpin all advising teams. Additionally, this position will provide timely outreach to students who are at risk and referred to Central Advising via Student Support Referrals.
Education and Experience
- A Bachelor's degree from a recognized post-secondary institution.
- A minimum of two years of supervisory or leadership experience. Experience in a unionized environment is considered an asset.
- A minimum of five years of experience in an academic advising position evaluating complex student issues related to course and program selection at a post-secondary institution.
- Advanced level of technical skills including the use of the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint); BANNER; FAST or a similar integrated student information system/database; and the ability to learn software programs that may be used at the University.
- Familiarity with business analysis, change management, and project management, with the ability to identify/define/gaps, risks, and requirements, is an asset.
- Mental Health First Aid training.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Demonstrated experience in identifying and assessing technology issues from an operations perspective with the ability to bridge end-user needs with technical and functional requirements.
- Demonstrated knowledge of post-secondary educational and technology solutions systems. Experience in enterprise systems including system testing, system and business process analysis, and documentation from a functional perspective in a post-secondary environment.
- Current knowledge of best practices in admissions, enrolment, and other student-facing services
- Experienced in providing effective and appropriate guidance and counsel considering a student's developmental level, cultural background, and other perspectives that contribute to the student's perspective.
- Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of secondary and post-secondary educational systems such as policies, grading, and post-secondary organizational structure.
- Demonstrated knowledge of career opportunities for post-secondary graduates and career-building opportunities for current students.
- Ability to work independently, exercise good judgment, demonstrate initiative, resolve conflicts, and address a variety of personnel, technical, and operational challenges.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills for collaborating with team members and various business units. Experience in working with a multi-disciplinary team to manage complex student cases.
- Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Exceptional customer service skills, including dealing effectively with a diverse range of people and situations.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and attention to detail skills.
- Self-starter with strong leadership skills and the ability to work in a confidential setting, with good judgment in dealing with sensitive and confidential information
- Ability to think innovatively and creatively in planning and developing a fresh approach to existing activities.
- Flexibility to take on a wide variety of duties and willingness to adapt work schedules as required by the department.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and proven ability to communicate effectively in English with a wide range of individuals at all levels, with sensitivity to the complexities of cross-cultural communication.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle is required.

Salary Information
Salary and wage increments are in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
