Job Description

Horizon Recruitment is recruiting for a newly created Controller position with an innovative junior mining company that is entering an exciting period of growth. This is a technology-driven business focused on advancing mining projects and revitalizing previously non-viable operations across Canada.

As the company builds its platform for rapid growth over the next five years, the Controller will establish and strengthen the financial reporting function, support scalable systems, and provide the financial insight needed to guide business decisions. This is an opportunity to join a high-caliber executive team and play a key role in shaping the company's financial infrastructure from the ground up.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and lead the company's financial reporting and accounting function as the business expands.
  • Own the preparation of accurate, timely financial statements in accordance with IFRS.
  • Manage multi-entity consolidations and ensure consistent reporting across the organization.
  • Establish accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls that support long-term growth.
  • Partner with the executive leadership team to deliver financial insights that support strategic decisions.
  • Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
  • Evaluate and improve accounting systems, processes, and reporting tools to support a growing organization.
  • Lead or support the implementation of scalable financial systems, including ERP solutions.
  • Ensure financial reporting is accurate, reliable, and aligned with regulatory and stakeholder requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, strengthen controls, and build a high-performing finance function.
  • Support the company's evolving financial needs as it advances its mining projects across Canada.

Requirements:

  • CPA designation in good standing.
  • Public practice accounting background, with experience serving mining or natural resources clients.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS reporting and financial statement preparation.
  • Experience managing multi-entity consolidations.
  • Demonstrated ability to build processes and take ownership in a newly established function.
  • Experience with accounting system implementations or ERP projects.
  • NetSuite implementation experience is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with QuickBooks is an asset.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-starter who is comfortable working independently and partnering with senior leadership.
  • Ability to adapt to a growing, technology-driven business and help build the finance function for scale.

Remuneration:

  • Base salary: $120,000 - $140,000.
  • Short-term incentive plan (STIP).
  • Long-term incentive plan (LTIP).
