Job Description
Well-rounded Controller position with a growing technology company headquartered in Vancouver. This is one of the most exciting Controller roles open right now in the Vancouver tech sector! Who- the Company:Our client is an award-winning tech company based in Vancouver, Canada. The company is in “mature start-up” phase and is hiring for top talent to help them develop to the next step in the company’s journey. Revenues and employee count have doubled in the last couple of years. The business has a recurring revenue SAAS model with multi-year contracts. The company has won various awards/accolades and is very values-based with a loyal and growing customer base.
What- the Role:On behalf of our client, Swim Recruiting is conducting the recruitment for a strategic yet hands-on and very results-driven Controller. This is a newly created role. The new Controller will have 0-1 direct reports at the start, but the accounting team size will grow in the coming months and years. The Controller will be the key “right-hand” to an experienced CFO who has been with the company since inception.
This is a very well-rounded and fulfilling role. The Controller will be fully accountable for the company’s accounting operations, including month/quarter/year end and audit, financial reporting (ASPE), general corporate and operational accounting (including overseeing AR & AP), tax compliance, financial systems, revenue recognition, etc.
The company already has excellent accounting processes, policies, data collection methods, and systems in place, but the Controller will continue to expand, improve, build, create, and innovate in the years to come- the company already has solid, healthy roots but still has a lot of growing and flourishing to do! Who- the Candidate:- At least 6 years and preferably 9+ years of progressive and relevant accounting & finance experience.
- CPA designation is required.
- Experience working in the fast-paced tech sector, ideally with a SAAS company.
- Experience with multi-currency & multi-entity accounting, ideally within a mid-size and high-growth private company.
- Public practice training is high preferred.
- Financial Systems:
- Excellent systems skills, including hands-on experience using a midsize or enterprise ERP. Experience with other financial systems such as automation software, BI or AI tools is significant asset.
- Experience leading a full cycle financial system implementation project (from selection through to go-live and customization) is highly preferred.
- Excellent mentorship & team leadership abilities. Capable of influencing above and across. A true relationship builder, with a positive attitude.
- Business savvy and an entrepreneurial spirit are key!
- Experience working with past/current employers during significant periods of change and organic growth- i.e. exponential increase in revenues such as scaling up from $10M to $50M, working with a company during a significant acquisition, doing a new product roll-out or expanding into a new country, etc.
The work experience is of course important, but even more crucial are the soft skills! How Much:Let’s talk turkey! Base salary will be commensurate with work experience and qualifications, likely in the range of $120,000 to $150,000, with the top end reserved for candidates who have very relevant work experience and all the desired qualifications. The Controller will also be eligible for long-term incentives. Total compensation in-line with hitting departmental goals, revenue targets, team performance and retention, etc. In addition, the Controller will receive a competitive health benefits plan, a generous amount of paid time off (and some work remote flexibility), an L&D budget, etc.
Where:HYBRID. 3 days/week in office. Headquartered in Vancouver.
