Youth Forensic Psychiatric Services (YFPS) is mandated to provide inpatient and outpatient Court-ordered and Court- related assessment and treatment services to young persons pursuant to the Youth Criminal Justice Act as well as other relevant federal and provincial statutes. YFPS also provides services to young persons found unfit to stand trial and those youth found not criminally responsible due to a mental disorder (NCRMD), pursuant to the Criminal Code of Canada.

Assessment and treatment services for youth may include specialized treatment services for: youth who may have committed violent or sexual offences; youth who have offended and are experiencing mental health, behavioural, drug and/or alcohol addictions problems; and youth in custody facilities who are in need of mental health services.

The Community Nurse works as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, providing direct care to adolescents with a broad range of mental health and behavioural problems. This position is responsible for an individual caseload, provide consultation and teaching to other professionals and agencies, and contributes to program development. The nature of the work is diverse and complex. It consists of managing a high volume and requires critical thinking, sound analysis, expeditious decision-making, and the balancing of competing priorities. An effective and versatile collaborator, you successfully establish and maintain important working relationships with a variety of allied professionals in the community to complete work assignments. Job Requirements:
  • Master's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing from a recognized university, and licensed to practice and registered under the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives; OR
  • Applicants with equivalent combination of nursing diploma and related nursing experiences and licensed to practice nursing in BC.
    • NOTE:If your degree or diploma was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ). You must provide a basic report or proof if in process by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in psychiatric nursing.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 BC Driver's license with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).


Preference may be given to applicants with the following :
  • Two (2) or more years of experience working with adolescents in a forensic or community mental health setting.
  • Master's degree in Nursing or in a clinical human services field or equivalent.
