About the Opportunity

Echelon Creative Inc. is looking for a full-time Commercial Construction Estimator based in our Nanaimo, BC office.

This role reports to the Ownership/Construction Manager and is responsible for preparing detailed and accurate commercial construction estimates and managing the tender process.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating with team members on upcoming projects and establishing suitable bids
  • Making site visits and attending pre-bid meetings to understand project scope and requirements
  • Preparing detailed estimates including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor quotes
  • Assembling bid packages and aiding in the preparation of construction schedules before tender submissions
  • Performing quantity takeoffs for various construction scopes
  • Following up with subcontractors to ensure participation and gather bids
  • Responding to construction-related inquiries from subcontractors and suppliers
  • Participating in project handover meetings with operations teams
  • Issuing RFIs to design consultants to address document gaps or inconsistencies
  • Updating estimate spreadsheets and identifying cost-saving opportunities during the tender period
  • Actively seeking new leads and potential projects through networking and market engagement
About You

To qualify, you will need a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in commercial construction estimating, particularly with projects in the range of up to $10 million.

A formal background in management, engineering, or architectural construction-related technology (BCIT, ABET, or equivalent) will also be highly regarded.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, MS Project, Outlook, Word)
  • Comfort with reading and interpreting construction documents
  • Experience with various estimating software
  • Knowledge of WorkSafe BC regulations and standard specification formats
  • Ability to perform under pressure and manage tight deadlines during the tender closing period
