Job Summary

The Clean Transportation Unit develops and implements leading-edge legislation, policies, and programs to increase efficiency of and decarbonize the transportation sector, and to spur growth in the clean transportation industry in BC. The Unit develops strategic direction for British Columbia with respect to transportation energy.

The position is the provincial lead on, and provides oversight to, the planning, development, delivery and evaluation of a range of policies, legislation, and programs related to the transformation of the transportation sector towards more efficient and zero emissions technology. The position is the statutory decision maker under the Zero-Emission Vehicles Act.

Job Requirements:
  • Advanced degree or diploma in public/business administration, economics, political science, environmental studies, science or closely related discipline; or a professional designation and work experience in subject areas involving technology, research and analysis. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of five (5) years demonstrated senior management experience, including:
    • Leading large, complex policy and/or program initiatives.
    • Establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with senior leaders across government, other levels of government, academia and industry;
    • Managing and leading multi-disciplinary teams;
    • Providing advice, guidance to and performance evaluations to direct and indirect reporting staff;
    • Communicating complex matters in a concise and accessible manner including in verbal briefings and written products such as reports, position papers, presentations, speaking notes, briefing notes, decision notes and other materials;
    • Engaging with business, government, and industry representatives, particularly in a sensitive business environment, related to the policies, services and economic environment in BC;
    • Managing large and complex project budget and contracts;
    • Working with Indigenous communities and/or organizations;
    • Advising executives and senior elected officials.


Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:
  • Experience developing, and implementing policy, programs and initiatives that advance clean transportation, and increase investment and employment in the BC economy.
  • Experience in the field of policy development including undertaking consultations both inside and outside of government.
  • Experience in the innovation, clean technology, climate action, or economic development sectors.
