Job Summary

You will work with leaders at all levels in the BC Public Service to navigate conflict more effectively and address current or ongoing conflict situations with the goal of improving workplace relationships, communication and team effectiveness.

The Conflict Management Consultant focuses on the practice of interest-based conflict management providing expert conflict management advice, consultation and delivery of various interest-based conflict management processes, including coaching, mediation, facilitated conversations, workplace improvement processes and training. The position works in partnership with the team's Conflict Management Specialists. This position requires continuous learning provided internally in order to remain competent in all areas of conflict management process and practice.

Job Requirements:
  • Post-Secondary degree in a discipline related to dispute resolution (including Conflict Resolution, Dispute Resolution, Conflict Analysis, Behavioural Sciences, Human Resources Management, Communications, Social Work, or Law); OR
  • Certificate in 3rd Party Mediation (for example, Justice Institute of British Columbia Certificate in Conflict Resolution: Specialization in Mediation/Third-Party Intervention or CICR Third Party Neutral Conflict Resolution Certificate); OR
  • An equivalent or alternate combination of education, training and/or experience may be considered.
  • Experience coaching clients through a conflict situation, preferably with use of a well-recognized and effective model, such as a Professional Certification in the CINERGY Model© of Conflict Management Coaching (International Coach Federation Accredited Training Program and Certification Process).
  • Experience facilitating formal training in adult skills-based education, preferably delivering conflict resolution skills training.
  • Experience dealing with confidential client information.
  • Experience independently managing a portfolio of clients in a customer service environment.
  • Experience managing projects from concept to completion, including conducting needs assessments, framework design, process development, implementation and communication plans, piloting, review, and refinement.
  • Experience applying knowledge of general HR practices, collective agreements, policies, legislation, human rights and labour relations in a public service environment. Additional preference may be given to applicants who have this experience in the BC Public Service.


Preference may be given to applicants who have:
  • Experience leading delivery of 4 or more formal Conflict Resolution processes with individual disputants, such as Mediation, Facilitated Conversation or Conflict Coaching processes, within the last 3 years, preferably in a workplace context. Additional preference may be given to applicants who have extensive experience leading formal Conflict Resolution processes, i.e. more than 12 in the last 3 years.
  • Public Sector experience.
  • Experience dealing effectively with leaders in senior levels of government or private sector at a level equivalent to Assistant Deputy Ministers, Executive Directors and other senior levels.
  • Use of personality inventories such as Insights, Lumina, Myers-Briggs, Strength Development Inventory.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 5 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
This position can be based out of any of the location(s) listed above.
