The Senior Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Officer is a key team player in the protection of human health and the environment from pesticides and waste discharges through the delivery and administration of the Environmental Management Act (EMA) and Integrated Pest Management Act (IPMA) and Regulation across the province.

The Senior IPM Officer provides authoritative and expert technical advice to others on areas of pesticide risk, sector-specific practices across multiple sectors in BC, integrated pest management techniques, and socio-economic factors affecting industry, members of the public, and First Nations. The Senior IPM is responsible for making decisions affecting environmental quality, human health, First Nations' interests, and the livelihoods of people discharging waste into the environment and people who sell or use pesticides.

Job Requirements:
  • Master of Science degree in biology, agriculture, forestry, environmental science or applied science in an appropriate discipline and three years *related experience, in the field of natural resource management, three of which are related to pest management, OR;
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, agriculture, forestry, environmental science or applied science in an appropriate discipline and five years *related experience, in the field of natural resource management, three of which are related to pest management, OR;
  • Technical diploma in biology, agriculture, forestry, environmental science or applied science in an appropriate discipline and seven years *related experience, in the field of natural resource management, four of which are related to pest management.
  • Full registration or immediate eligibility for membership of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia, the BC Institute of Agrologists, or the Association of BC Professional Foresters.
  • Experience applying environmental protection legislation/regulations/policy.
  • Minimum one year of demonstrated supervisory experience in planning, organizing, and coordinating a professional and technical workforce.
  • Maintain valid Class 5 BC driver's license or equivalent.


*Related experience must include all of the following:
  • Experience in the areas of integrated pest management practices and pesticide application techniques.
  • Experience in writing and interpreting technical material, and in use of computer programs such as Word and Excel.
  • Experience in working and negotiating with external parties, such as industry and First Nations, and in communicating technical knowledge to the public.
  • Experience in working with multiple projects or assignments.
  • Experience in negotiation with staff and clients from a diverse background.


PROVISOS
  • Must be willing to work occasional evening and weekends to represent the program at public meetings and events.
  • Willingness to travel expensively and meet the transportation requirements of the position.
  • Must be physically able to perform field work and work in adverse weather conditions.
