About Oak Transit

Oak Transit Incorporated is an enterprise created by Volunteer Cowichan to coordinate the delivery of handyDART in the Cowichan Region. Our vision is to be an innovative, locally controlled provider of publicly accessible transportation services. We provide a safe, dependable, and efficient transit service to the communities we serve by being client centered, responsive and adaptive to changing circumstances. Oak Transit is committed to excellence in service to the Cowichan community. We pay our staff a living wage, purchase locally and pursue a smaller environmental footprint.
Volunteer Cowichan has coordinated handyDART for the Cowichan Region since 1982, and is transitioning the service to Oak Transit as its social enterprise. handyDART is a shared-ride system that provides transportation services for people with disabilities sufficiently severe that they are unable to use conventional transit service without assistance. The system is funded by BC Transit and the Cowichan Valley Regional District and operates within the guidelines and standards set by BC Transit. The Operations Manager will manage a fleet of 6 buses and 10 staff to provide 10,000 service hours or 23,000 client trips a year. This is a part time position with the potential for future growth in scope and time.
