Work up to 21 hours per week. Must be able to work flexible hours (including some evenings and weekends).

Based in Burnaby however travel is required between delivery sites in Coquitlam, Surrey or New Westminster in addition to travel across the Lower Mainland.

The Role
The Workplace Communication Facilitator contributes to the success of Douglas College and its community of learners and will be responsible as part of the Career Paths for Skilled Immigrants' team to assist program participants in finding work in their field of expertise.

The intent of the Career Paths for Skilled Immigrants initiative is to improve employment outcomes for Skilled Immigrants in BC by leveraging their pre-arrival skills and qualifications which thereby contributes to higher earnings and facilitates progress towards re-credentialing where appropriate. This, in turn, benefits the BC labour market. Clients are specifically looking to return to their pre-landing occupations in education or community social services.

The Facilitator will provide employed focused communication workshops to internationally educated educators or social services professionals who are enrolled with the Career Paths for Skilled Immigrants program at Douglas College. The goal is to provide extensive practice so that clients gain confidence in their communication skills to look for, find and maintain employment in their professional field.


• Deliver interactive workshop series based on occupationally specific topics including Professionalism and Collaboration Across Workplace Teams, Intercultural Communication in the Workplace and Essential Skills at Work;
• Meet with and conduct needs assessment to determine individual client learning needs specific to their goal occupation;
• Prepare student centred learning activities and assignments for 1-1 and group settings either face to face, via online software or via BlackBoard;
• Work in tandem with Education & Social Services Career Coach to reinforce career management sessions. This will include but is not limited to resume/cover letter support, interview practice and scenario-based activities to introduce clients to occupationally focused situations they will encounter when looking for work and post-employment;
• Provide individual feedback;
• Ensure that students complete and follow up on assignments and activities;
• Conduct client marketing, recruitment and pre-screening in coordination with Career Coach.
To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need
• Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree (Masters preferred) in a related discipline;
• 3 to 5 years' experience teaching workplace communication focused topics to newcomers to BC;
• Member of BC TEAL an asset;
• Experience delivering topics on Canadian Workplace Culture;
• Knowledge creating and teaching in an online environment. E.g. Blackboard or Moodle;
• Knowledge and experience working with internationally trained professionals is an asset;
• Excellent knowledge of computers and internet resources;
• Proven ability to work independently;
• Proven organizational skills.
